Nowhere to try as far as I know... Came across them at a session in Glasgow, but don't know who the guy is... And since it's about two hours travel, it's not a session I'm likely to go to before dopparedan.
And about them being a present... Well since it's money from the same household, I suppose it's in my interest that the money is well spent...
Nice to hear that there's sessions "on the other side of the sea"! Good to know when we move over to Sweden...
Hi there. They are made by a guy called Erle Bartlett in the blue mountains in sydney, australia. They are lovely whistles (i have been playing one myself for about a year now), definately money well spent for the price in my opinion. He also makes great low whistles, wodden whistles and bodhrans.
Looks like they have been discontinued. I have emailed Erle to find out what the story is. The reviews on Chiff and Fipple have convince me to buy a set.
I have played three of them and strongly disliked all. I think Earle is a very nice guy, and he did go out of his way to offer a solution. But in the end, I simply didn't care for the look, tone or playability of any of the whistles.
Sindts are one of the best US made lines currently if you're going for that 'Generation/Oak/Feadóg' type tone and playability. However, John is stating a lead of approx. one year now, and from many accounts he is slow to reply to email etc.
I ordered a set from Erle just last week and they arrived today. I am amazed at the quality of the workmanship and they are truly superb value for money. No hesitation in recommending them at this price.
I got a set of Bb, C, D and Eb bodies with interchangeable head for a mere £40 - and that included the postage.
Syn Whistles
Syn Whistles
Just been asked if I want a set of Syn Whistles for Christmas.
Only seen them once and not heard them played properly, but they seemed rather nice...
Not very expensive, but I couldn't afford to spend £70 on anything I wouldn't use...
Anyone having any experience of them?
Thanks,
Jennie

Re: Syn Whistles
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, Jen.
My coworker (pelsor) hears good things about them. Anywhere (session or shop) you could try the Syn before "dopparedan"?

Re: Syn Whistles
100% sure it's Syn. Made in Austraila. Have been in contact with the guy that makes them.
It's apparently about 130 Aus $ which would be about £60. Chiff & Fipple has a review of them I think.

There's a good review of them here http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?p=429002
Looks like bloody good value to me and might think about it myself!
