Re: free banjo downloads?

I play a Deering Maple Blossom and to be honest I rate above anything else I've tried. They have amazing sustain and tone.

Re: free banjo downloads?

http://worldfiddlemusic.co.uk/mightycraiconline/ There are some nice banjo clips, including Jim Williams' superb playing.

And a couple of clips from Custy's website:
Kieran Hanrahan: http://www.custysmusic.com/mall/CustysTraditionalMusicShop/kieran_hanrahan_and_sonny_murray_irish_tenor_banjo.htm
Angelina Carberry with Martin Quinn: http://www.custysmusic.com/mall/CustysTraditionalMusicShop/angelina_and_martin.htm

Re: free banjo downloads?

It's not free, but the best bang for the buck is Chris Smith's new album, Coyotebanjo, featuring banjo (Chris) Fiddle (Randal Bays) and Bouzouki (Roger Landes. )

It contains over 40 tunes, mostly in sets, that are standards that we all eventually have to know. The nice thing about Chris's playing is that it is very accesible and easy to understand while still sophisticated (for a banjo <G>) and tuneful. If you are beginning the banjo or are in the midst of building your repetoire and style, you won't find a better resource. You can get it here (http://www.coyotebanjo.com/products.html) for $15 US and worth every cent.

I have no financial interest in promoting this CD, I just like it a lot and use it all the time to learn tunes I am supposed to know.

Re: free banjo downloads?

A Deering Maple Blossom in Ireland is about 4200 euro and goes for a bit cheaper from deering themselves in California, . www.deeringbanjos.com.
I am the only Irish Tenor player so far to record Irish music with a Deering and you can hear some clips on my media page on www.darrenmaloney.com. I am about to get a new Deering, a tenor version of their Golden Classic 5 string banjos, a copy of war time banjos, which has a deeper resonator with tapered inside walls and a slighty thicker neck for more sustain and a wee bit more volume. So if anyone is looking for a secondhand Maple Blossom give us a shout!
