FROM THE LITTLE BEGGERMAN "Auld Rigadoo"- IS IT A WHISTLE OR A CARRYING RIG?

FROM THE LITTLE BEGGERMAN "Auld Rigadoo"- IS IT A WHISTLE OR A CARRYING RIG?

Does anyone know what the actual reference to is in AULD RIGADOO in the song THE LITTLE BEGGERMAN - The context reads as though it could mean a pennywhistle or fife yet it could also refer to some form of dufflebag -

Hey Mctree

I always thought it was a walking stick, but here is a link to a mudcat thread where it is discussed at length.

In short one person suggests it may be slang for 'rigaudon' which is a french dance.
Anyway, if in doubt google rigadoo definition.

Cheers

I have always understood it to be a wooden handcart; like a wheelbarrow with two wheels.

I always thought the Auld Rigadoo, was the speil or patter involved with the begging trade.

Similar to the "Old Ricky-doo" = a swindle.
