Continuing recent threads about tunes in jig and reel shape and A and B parts: I was given sheet music of Drummond Castle for harp in 3/4 time which turned out to be a 16 bar version of the B part. I'm going to add the A part of the jig.
Do any of you play jigs as airs/waltzes? How common is it that one part gets lost?
I once heard Scots air "Mist-Covered Mountains" paired with Junior Crehan's jig setting of the tune "Mist on the Mountain." John Carty plays both air and jig settings of Seanamhac Tube Station: http://www.rte.ie/radio1/thelatesession/rams/26december.ram (starts around 27:00)
We do one turn of "Irish washerwoman" as a waltz just for the fun of it and then speed up into a jig version, haven't tried it with the other tunes though.

Re: jig into waltz
I have to own up to occasionally playing "The Irish Washerwoman" as a waltz -but only among consenting adults !

Re: jig into waltz
That is an intreseting idea I might have to try it. I have played Reels as Strathspey before I find that fun.
