I was wondering if anybody knows any irish uilleann pipe instructors in the Los Angeles area,
I go to school in Azusa (Glendora, Monrovia, Pasadena are close) so anyone close by would be helpful.
I play the penny whistle, but have always wanted to learn the elbow pipes, especially since my recent
visit to Ireland. Any help would be nice.
Contact the Pipers Club of Southern California. They have a web site. I know of only two pipers in the LA area who have really got it under control. One is Eric Rigler, the other is Patrick D'Arcy. There are a few other serious learners at various levels of accomplishment, but ,having played plenty of tunes with the former two and having heard all the others, I think they are the only two technically advanced enough to offer proper instruction. But I don't know if they are interested in teaching. Anyway, contact the Piper's Club and you'll be off to a good start and in good company.
I live in diamond bar and went to a meeting last year (9/10) to see if my practice set could get fixed. There is a session at Dalts bar in Burbank every friday as well.
They are a friendly group and it was inspiring to see 8 to 10 pipe sets being played from practice gooses to full sets- really cool.
email me at felinoba@gte.net- since you are close we should try to car pool- its a bit far from us- south orange county

Check out Patrick D'Arcy's uileann pipes obsession page on the internet. He is based in LA and will be able to put you in touch with a teacher.
Good luck
