nice fiddle playing

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

OK, my apologies. I'll back the "puke" remark. It was uncalled for. I was thinking that "is this the place for self-promotion?" but if I was as good a musician as Chris I'd most likely do the same and publicise an album here. Nice playing, Chris et al!

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by Rudall the time

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

"is this the place for self promotion?"

You bring up an interesting point here, Danny. Normally, I'd say it wasn't. However, Chris has been a regular contributor here over the years, albeit he's had a short break away. So, in a way, it's just like he's mentioning the fact that he's got a new CD to "his pals at The Session" as opposed to his pals at his local pub session.

Therefore, I've no problem with Chris bringing this up here. However, I would be irritated if "one off" visitors were to make a habit of coming here and were using the site as free advertising. Fair enough, if they're contributing something but not if they make the one post to publicise their album or whatever and are never seen again.

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by John J.

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

True, I made that point to Danny that if some one we never saw here
before became a member and promoted their whatever, then you'd say feck off.
But wouldn’t it be odd if any of us produced something to do with diddley,
and then on the diddley site never said anything about it?

Fair play to Danny for apologising, takes a lot of guts.

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

I don't know....I think I'd feel even more of a pillock if I *didn't* say anything, especially in light of our recent dicussion.

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

No leave Brian alone I'm enjoying this too much. I reckon we should make Pingu get down on his hands and knees, lick his Chris's boots and beg his forgiveness.

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

No, I was only kidding. I'm not really enjoying it. It's just so rare to see Pingu be so selfless and apologetic that it's... it's almost beautiful. Pingu you're an inspiration to us all!

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

Lick Chris's boots? He might if you pour Guinness all over them.

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

So if some of you guys feel like this about Chris' post, what do you think about the one-off "I'm playing with Paddy Keenan" thread?

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by Phantom Button

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

I think we've all reached an agreed consensus re the original post. They're just really indulging in a bit of nonsense now.

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by John J.

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

Johnny J! How could say such a thing! "Nonsense"! C'mon now, this is obviously IMPORTANT.

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by Zina Lee

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

Not altogether happy about it Jack, but not enough to
comment I suppose, big fan of Keenen anyway so that has
something to do with it.

How do YOU feel about it ?

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by BegF

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

On the other hand, thsi is a perfect place to advertise and find out about these things.
Would be sorry if I lived in the area and missed it.

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by BegF

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

So if it was Paddy putting up a commercial post then it would be ok? But actually it was the following that made me pose the query: "However, I would be irritated if "one off" visitors were to make a habit of coming here and were using the site as free advertising. Fair enough, if they're contributing something but not if they make the one post to publicise their album or whatever and are never seen again."

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

I tend to let Jeremy decide what's allowable and what's not. Ah the freedoms of no responsibilities! :)

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by Zina Lee

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

We all know that Jeremy has the last word if anything was to be done, but I wasn't asking what should be done. I was just wondering what the opinions were after reading this thread.

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by Phantom Button

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

I agree with Zina!!

I think Jack it's not black or white, you'd probably have to look at each case and decide which is taking the p*ss, which is not, which is of interest to people even if it is taking the p*ss.
It appears to me that both threads are perfectly fine.

But what do YOU think Jack ?

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by BegF

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

We're all here at Jeremy's pleasure and under his conditions, so I don't feel comfortable judging whether a particular entry is proper. In general, though, I'm glad to be informed about performances, recordings, products, etc., that are clearly related to the music.

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by Bob himself

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

BegF, Zina and I weren't in disagreement... there was no disagreement. I was simply asking for opinions related to comments made on this thread. Why is it that after just asking for an opinion you guys think I was suggesting that something should be done about it? You're jumping to conclusions here.

# Posted on September 14th 2005 by Phantom Button

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

Because it's YOU, Jack. ;) Just kidding -- actually, what I meant was that I don't bother having opinions on that particular subject, because if Jeremy thinks it's ok, then it's ok by me, and so on and so forth. :)

# Posted on September 15th 2005 by Zina Lee

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

Woe betide us if we ever *did* disagree with you Jack :-}

# Posted on September 15th 2005 by Dr. Dow

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

“ Why is it that after just asking for an opinion you guys think I was suggesting that something should be done about it?” I never thought that.

Jack, just because I said I agree with Zina, doesn’t mean I disagree with you.
How could I ? You haven’t given you opinion yet.
You asked for an opinion, I gave it, and then asked for yours.
I’m not jumping to any conclusions.

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

You lot still here arguing? Hey, it's now Thursday again, a week after the initial post!

(ducking, running for cover....)

# Posted on September 15th 2005 by Rudall the time

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

Yeah, but the weird thing of all is we're arguing that we're not arguing.

# Posted on September 15th 2005 by BegF

Re: Chris Smith "Coyotebanjo" and coyotebanjo.com

If anybody makes it this far down, I just want to say this is a very nice album. I got my copy yesterday. It has a very genuine session-y flavour without the clanking glasses and itinerant shakey-egg players. Remeniscent of "Live at Mona's" a bit.

Thank goodness Chris put up this post, or I would never have heard about his lovely recording!

I want to see MORE shameless self-promotion please.
