Sessions or players in Southern Indiana or Lousiville, KY?
I'm based in south central Indiana. It is my intention to start a session in Perry County, possibly located at the high school here (working out the details with school officials). Let me know if you are in the area and would be interested! I'd also like to know if there are existing regular sessions in my area (Evansville, Owensboro, Bloomington, New Albany, Louisville, etc). So much old time out here, it's hard to find anything Celtic. I'm out of the Louisville loop, but I'm sure there are sessions there, too. Thanks!

Sorry, I don't live close. SimilarIy, I am interested in starting a session on the Northside of Indianapolis and would like to know how much support I could drum (bodrhan) up.
Re: Sessions or players in Southern Indiana or Lousiville, KY?
Thanks for the reply. I'm in such a no man's land down here I don't know how much luck I'll have getting players. If I ever decide to travel, I'll inquire back to see if your session is going on in Indy.
Re: Sessions or players in Southern Indiana or Lousiville, KY?
Hello,
Down here in the hinterland of Vincennes, IN, we have an Irish music scene, albeit small, and you are very welcome to take part. We have an open session on the second Saturday of each month (next one - August 10) at Purgatory coffeehouse, corner of Second and Main in downtown Vincennes, from 8-10 p.m. We've been doing this between 3-4 years now and also sometimes have home sessions. Contact me if you'd like more information, or just come to a session!
There's a vibrant Irish music scene in Bloomington, IN. They have an open session on the first Friday of each month, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Borders bookstore in Eastland Plaza. It's usually led by Grey Larson and is sometimes large. You'd be welcome to join in. If you'd like more information, I could find the contact for you. They also may be having a session at the Irish Lion in Bloomington, but I'm not sure of the status of that one.
I hope this helps. We are also surrounded by Old Time, Bluegrass, Gospel, etc. We Irish musicians in Southern Indiana need to get together whenever we can!
Good Luck!
Re: Sessions or players in Southern Indiana or Lousiville, KY?
Thanks alot for the info! I'd love to come to the open session in Vincennes. Perhaps in September. Bloomington, also. If my session in Perry County gets off the ground I'll post the details. For your Purgatory Coffeehouse sessions, do you have a "playlist", or at least a handful of tunes that tend to come up on a regular basis? My experience is limited to the Old Time sessions and the Celtic fiddles tunes I have memorized on my own. A "head start" would serve me well, even if I just listen in the first time.
The Irish Lion (on Kirkwood one block west of courthouse) Session is Sundays at 7 PM. I haven't been, but someone is after me to go. (I live about an hour north of Indy). Grey Larsen's is great also (haven't been to that one in a while either).

macha,
Looking forward to hearing about a Perry County session - good luck!
As far as the Purgatory sessions, we are in a transition period right now, it seems. Two stalwarts will be leaving the area soon and we MIGHT be changing our venue and date. I'll post any changes ASAP. I do think that our September 14 one will still be on at the same place and date, though. I'll get a list of tunes worked up for you. Sorry it took me long to reply!

Thanks for the info on Bloomington sessions. I'd like to get to one of the Irish Lion ones. Check out the Borders one when you can!

Got your e-mail. Sorry it took me so long to reply. Session is still on at Purgatory on Saturday, September 14, 8-10 p.m. It's very small and informal. I do plan to send you a list of tunes, which I'll try to do tomorrow!
