I travel a little bit with work and have used the database of global sessions over the last few years to find sessions in Tokyo, London, Chicago and Philadelphia. It's a great resource. Who else has used the database before heading out on their travels?
I'm off to Penarth tomorrow. Yesterday I got in touch with "Conway" about a session in Cardiff so I'll be there tomorrow night!
While I was working on a UK-wide contract for 6 months, I used the database to find sessions in many large towns and cities, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield and Brighton. I've also found sessions (and new friends) in Baltimore, New York and Bilbao.
A fantastic resource, not least because you can contact members direct to enquire about session details.
Me as well. I keep on forgetting where The Blythe is, despite it being down at the bottom of my street. That's because I can never remember when i leave it....
But seriously, yes, I have used it, but so far only for other sessions in UK.
I've used it about a month ago, wanting to visit "The Quiet Man" in Paris - it was a one-day-stay and the pub opened about 1 hour after my departure (aaarrgh
We're hoping our Cue, the ever-friendly Cartooning Hack from the Cape will be gracing the hallowed chambers of the Blythe , possibly on the Ides of Ninth Month.
Ooooo, cool! You're that much closer to me now, Q! I'll have to make sure we plan to stop in London if we end up going to Ireland next year. (We'll be staying in Galway, I think, or Ennis -- want to come along?)
Actually, strangely enough, a box player friend of mine from Suffolk phoned me tonight asking if I knew of any Wednesday sessions in London, as he was in a hotel near London. Apart from the WH (not listed here, and is not my prerogative to do so) of the 3 listed non of them are viable! So the database possibly needs an overhaul.
good call, Danny. I've been trawling the London listings and there are a whole bunch that are defunct - with messages to that effect in the comments section, but it does clog up the works some.
Zina, sure I'll come along. When shall I pencil you in for?
My itinerary so far includes the tradfest in Ennis in
November and the FK winter school in Donegal over New Years. Gawd, I can't wait...
just a suggestion...would it be possible to have a subsection in the sessions section for defunct sessions...or if definitely defunct ones could have a red star, or something obvious, on their "front page" to signal their defunctness/defunctity?
I've "noticed" this effect: when a system becomes really busy you have to be constantly on its case thinking up new strategies to deal with increased traffic/increased problems. This is happening to stuff I'm doing at work right now. AND it's gonna get worse...well, busier, anyway. Still. Keeps me off the streets I suppose....

Me too. Always have a look before going away in case there's anything nearby.
Trouble is, I seem go to the wrong places.

Re: "TheSession.org" session database
I always check before travelling. Two great "hits" so far - the Victory Cafe in Toronto, and the Kerry Piper in Chicago.
I suspect there's many more sessions lurking out there that are not in the database.

I don't get to travel much, so I only have our local session. But guess how I found our local session. Right here at TheSession of course!

I know this is late - we're packing today, but there is nothing in the database for the Costa del Sol. Anyone know of sessions down here?
