Leeds Gathering, 10-13 November

Leeds Gathering, 10-13 November

I got an email about this a couple of weeks ago & kept meaning to post it. There is an incredibly vibrant scene in Leeds, which is only 2 hours from London on the train, & you can get cheap flights from Heathrow, so everybody must come up! The sessions will be class.

"The Gathering will showcase some of the finest first and second-generation performers in Traditional Irish Music and Arts from across the country and is designed to appeal to people from an Irish background as well as other communities, with an interest in music and the arts. It will include a number of concerts, community participation events, sessions and workshops, literary and film events.

Where and When
The Gathering is to be staged in November 10th - 13th 2005 and take place in and around the Headingley area of Leeds which has a number of excellent venues and is well served in terms of public transport and already has an established milieu of cultural and social activities.

The full programme will be available in September".

I'm not going if you are, Siobhán!

Seriously, though, looks like it could be great. I've met some of the Leeds crowd and they are brilliant, right enough. What's accommodation like up there?
Definitely a good alternative to the Ennis Tradfest.

Re: Leeds Gathering, 10-13 November

I got the same email while I am far away from Yorkshire now. I know they invited Mike McGoldrick Band last Feburary, and so some more well-known musicians will be there next time.

There's no hostel in Leeds. But I'm sure there are plenty of B&Bs around Headingley.

Hello all, just to let you know that the Leeds Gathering will indeed be held again this year, between the 9 - 13th November. Dozens of events including music sessions, literary, film and theatrical events and talks are planned to take place at venues across Leeds, bringing Ireland’s finest artists to the city.

Performing artists include well known Irish traditional duo, Nollaig Casey & Arty McGlyn, singer Cara Dillon, London based young traditional group Elan and from Waterford, hiberno-jazzers The Moving Statues. Also, an extensive list of musicians from across Ireland, Scotland & England are booked to play on the ‘session trail’ including Deirdre Havlin, Kenneth Ryan, Dan O'Callaghan, Eoghan Dunphy, Mike Galvin, Katie Boyle, Mairead Mc Manus, Dave Cosky, Marcus Coulter, Steve Prosol, Adele Farrell, Liam Stapleton, Matt Griffin, Michael Tennyson and Colin Farrell.
