God, I admire your reserve - what a nightmare. Nothing that exciting's ever happened at one of our gigs - although I got molested by a drunken woman at a gig recently. That was quite fun...
If it was your gig, chucking your mandolin at this idiot and then giving him a string of abuse might not have been the most professional response - but I can understand your frustration! Did no-one have a word with the relief manager who could have chucked him out - although relief managers don't often want to get involved. Round here if you're barred from one pub, you're barred from most of them as they circulate details to each other.
I think it would have been better not to mention his name.
I´m not a lawyer but it seems to me that if you speak about somebody that you´ve identified in diffamatory terms on a worldwide website (however true it may have been), you could be liable for all sorts of unpleasant things.
The Macnamara name on the shirt might simply be a reference to Jackie Macnamara, who plays for Celtic. I know the guy you mean Bri. I'm saying nothing.
The fact that McNamara was written on the back of his Celtic shirt may not be particularly significant. I think Celtic have/had a player called Jackie McNamara and it was probably a replica shirt. (I don't support Celtic so I may be wrong about this)
As he appears to have been particularly drunk he may not have known his own name so even the Tommy bit may be inaccurate.
Is this thread a wind up and will the real Tommy McNamara please stand up?
Well Jackie Mac used to play for Celtic - left this summer to go down to Ingerland - and the 9 goals we have leaked in 2 games is probably testimony to how much we miss him!!
Anyway, what is the problem Bribanjoe? Why couldn't he join in? Are you just being elitist
Kerri, I saw that thread supposedly about you. I doubt very much it was someone you actually know. It was more likely someone who thought they could register on the site and then send an obscene and personal message, just to annoy us all. They succeeded, very briefly. In fact, there seems to have been about 3 newly registered people who just started a thread straight off and filled it with swearwords. Oh how we were all shocked by that!!!!
The kindest thing I can say is they have no session etiquette.
Calm down briban. This thread is getting a little too personal to be tasteful; this little maneen is obviously an eejit, and he'll most likely get his comeuppance soon enough. Attacking him on the internet isn't the answer though, especially if your information is correct- unless he has an internet connection in that van, I doubt he'll be able to defend himself.
But you can't really advance the thread this way because there's nothing more to say. What would be best for you now is to give us some more reading matter by seeking him out and beating him up, and then telling us the whole story of how it happened. It doesn't matter to us if you don't *actually* beat him up. Just make it up if you like - all we want is something to read.
It's all to easy to get mad at these types; obnoxious, session (or gig) wrecking idiots. But it sounds like his own life is wrecked as well. Drink and near homelessness probably isn't too much fun. A little pity and a call to the police. Hopefully there's some kind of social service to straighten him out? I know it sounds a bit polyana-ish, but maybe find all the pity you can muster under the circumstances. If you do, you'll be a couple of steps higher than me...
Go Taocat. I agree. The poor fella obviously needs help (attention seeking like that expresses itself in so many ways.....) and often the best course of action is to help the person find it as McKnowall has pointed out. Give someone enough rope and...well, you know the answer. I hope that this person gets some light in their life at some stage before they put too many people off side.
I am a bit surprised at the vindictive nature of so many of these postings lately. I thought this website was more for people who want to express their love/thoughts/positive experiences of ITM and all that is beautiful that goes with it. Surely there is enough mad stuff in this world and enough negativity. How about we try to show a little bit of love and give more space for those less fortunate than ourselves. I hope to read more positive experiences from you Bri so good luck with your future gigs. Maybe you could balance all this out by telling us about a really positive experience you have had with a member of the audience helping you out on stage? I hope those ones happen for you.
Yours in anticipation.
Kiwi.
We had the opposite situation at a gig recently.
We met some folks during the break who were real fans of the music, and had travelled a long way (it wasn't the sort of pub where you'd expect that!) and got one up on stage to participate in a certain number.
The bouncers sprang into action and ordered them off, even though we'd made it clear that they were invited.

I think it lacks class to start an entire thread about what an idiot some guy you know is. I doubt your thread will last a day.

Maybe it was Jackie Mcnamara, and he was out celebrating his move to wolves and he forgot to hand in his celtic jersey?
