The organisation here is top class and as far as I was able to ascertain, nobody had a bad word to say about either the classes or the sessions.
The welcome for everyone was special to say the least, when Murfbox and I arrived at the campsite, we didn't even need to pitch our tents as we were offered 2 places in a big one for the first 3 days and so had an extra hour in the pub. This being on the Friday before the official start on Sunday. There was a session already in progress and Murf played until the wee small hours.
Saturday saw a lot more people arriving and there were three sessions most of the time. The third one was an elite french, swiss, belgian and german one where the music was of the highest standard but consisted of recently composed or rare versions of old tunes played at a very sedate pace, not for the average sessioner..............
Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening were the only times we managed to have a singing session which lasted about 2 hours each time.
The 2 Hurling games were played on the Wednesday after I left so I can't give the results of them ( Cork versus The Rest of the World ).
All the engaged musicians played in the sessions and were extremely helpful to learners and old hands alike.
There were 67 pupils at the 10 classes which made them both intimate and friendly.
All in all, great craic, reminiscing, nostalgia, stories, convivial drinking and above all the music.

Tell me more...I'm intrigued.

What was the flute session and workshop like, does anyone know?

Re: 15th Worksop in Tocane Saint Apre.

There were a few good flute players in the sessions, one excellent Breton. As for the workshop itself I'm afraid I can't say.
Have sent you an E-Mail.

Re: 15th Worksop in Tocane Saint Apre.

Hi Ian, hope you had an enjoyable rest of the holiday.
This was my first time at Tocane and I was very impressed. And I probably missed the best of it because I had to leave on the Sunday night (the 1st day of the festival) to be at work on Monday morning.
There were a few sessions during the day on Saturday and Sunday, but the two night sessions I was at went on until 4 a.m.
There´s nothing like playing Irish music with really good musicians on a warm summer night on the terace of a French café. The best of both cultures !
Crannog arrived late on Saturday night after a marathon drive across half of Europe.
He immediately parked his van and joined in the session. Good to see you´ve got your priorities right, Volker !
Flauta, I can´t tell you what the workshops were like because I didn´t attend any, but to judge from the list of teachers that Ian has posted above, I´m sure the tuition was first class.
Ian and I had met briefly a few years ago at a session in France but this time we got to know each other a lot better. A very pleasant experience all round.
I´ve already pencilled this little festival in for next year and I´ll take a few days off so as not to make the mistake of trying to cram it into a weekend.
Mike.

Nice to know you got back all right Mike, how was Monday morning?????????
Don't know if Volker has finished his hols, would be nice to hear from the pupil point of view. He certainly enjoyed the sessions.

Just a quick mention of the fact that Jean-Luc the landlord gave everyone still on the terrace at 4am a free drink every night.

Re: 15th Worksop in Tocane Saint Apre.

Got back OK thanks, Ian. Took a wrong turning and found myself heading for the centre of Bordeaux, but managed to get back on the right track without losing too much time.
Yes, the landlord was very generous. In fact, generosity was the order of the day, everywhere.
Did you meet Tom Cussen and Pat Costello who arrived on the Monday from Chartier ?
Tom would have been playing banjo, and Pat, banjo, mandolin or guitar.

Re: 15th Worksop in Tocane Saint Apre.

Met Tom and Pat on the Tuesday. They led a session in the small covered area opposite the pub, both were playing Clareen Banjos. That was a lovely wee session. Mostly Clare tunes. Didn't have chance to ask them how they had fared in Saint Chartier. Hope they managed to do some business.
