I need a new pickup for my banjo, the last one was a cheap transducer and made a 500 quid banjo sound like a 50 quid one. I'm short of the old reddies but would probably invest if there isn't a cheaper alternative. I live in the uk so it would help if the said pickups where available here.
I just bought a Fishman "Rare Earth" pickup for my banjo. It works really great, so if you're interested in quality and not afraid of spending some money (It costs about 200 euro's...170 pounds I think). Hope this helps you.
I'm getting on alright with a C-Ducer .
Good sound to compete with bass and drums. http://www.c-ducer.com/agents.htm - AMG in Surrey are listed as the agents but they actually manufacture them
About £70 I think

Hiya Jim,
I just bought a Fishman "Rare Earth" pickup for my banjo. It works really great, so if you're interested in quality and not afraid of spending some money (It costs about 200 euro's...170 pounds I think). Hope this helps you.
