I had the sad news that my friend Danny Duffy, fiddler, died yesterday.
Danny was from Lettermacaward, Co Donegal and learned his first tunes from John Docherty who travelled in his area. Danny lived in Glasgow for a long time, and played for many years with Jimmy McHugh in the Four Provinces Ceili Band. He was also a stalwart of Sharkey's Bar sessions. Sadly after the death a couple of years ago of his friend and long-time musical colleague Dinny Boyle, accordion player, he lost the motivation to play, and then battled with a long illness himself.
Danny was a great source of Donegal music, particularly Highlands. He will be much missed by myself, Richard and Rosie, and all his musical friends in Glasgow.
Danny Duffy RIP

Re: Danny Duffy RIP
Sad news Sharon!
As you put it so succinctly, some of the light did go out with the passing on of some of the other Glasgow musicians.
