help with a pipemaker

help with a pipemaker

I've got a chanter here with a maker's mark I'm trying to identify. It's stamped on the front in three places with 'J.M.' Anyone got any leads?

Re: help with a pipemaker

I really don't know, but it might fit with Stephan John McCordick of England, or James Mulcrone of Longford. James Mulcrone died in the 1940's, so if your chanter is that old, you might need to ask on one of the uilleann pipe forums to get a real answer - and even then, you may want to talk to a good piper -or maker - who knows the work of older makers. Paddy Maloney supposedly has played a James Mulcrome chanter, according to the Sean Reid Society Journal CD.

All The Best,
