i'm just after reading that shocking post about the border collies trouble with their band names. Clan Ranald is the name of my band and cd which is due to be released in august after touring so i just wanted to check that none of ye have ever heard of us!! and that we're not unknowingly robing it from somewhere else. so far, i know it's the name of a tune who's composer has long since died and an ancient scottish clan who i'm hopeful aren't going to also rise from the dead and sue us!
this would appear to me to be one of the best places for researching the whole double identity issue as ye all seem to have well developed thoughts and information on it so if you could also tell me what other steps should be taken to make sure we don't have the same problem as mentioned, let me know.
The key legal issue with the Border Collies is one band allegedly taking the name of a pre existing band. Do a thorough Internet search to make sure. If another band somewhere does have the same name, it is then not a legal issue. It is the inconvenience of assuming another band name. It means building up a reputation again with music fans. Best Wishes!
Wow! I kept wrestling with my computer with an arrow cursor turning into a pointing hand. I didn't mean to make it all red and represented as a link. Kind of looks like I was yelling at you. Sorry!
I think it is the website for the infamous bleach bathing from another thread, because its all white. Probably a white font on white background. Or it could be an albino in a snow storm. Or is that an image of Michael Jackson I see? One too many bleach baths?
There is indeed a band with this name and much closer to home than Atlanta! They are based in Scotland, a piping band I think. They have also performed at the Festival Interceltique in Lorient in the past. I'm also aware of a book called the Clan Ranald Collection of Music with rare Scottish tunes in it. Maybe you could call yourselves The Clan Ranald Tribute Band!
The Clan Ranald Hotel located in the village of Acharacle about 25 miles west of Fort William in Scotland. The interesting point is that it is owned by a scottish box player of considerable notoriety "Fergie MacDonald"

Re: Clan Ranald
That screwy link in your post Ceol is due to Máirtín's unique member id. Ending it with the " / a >" messes with Jeremy's html coding.
