I once posted a lovely slow tune written by Jennifer Wrigley, but it was mistakenly deleted! Anyway, we still have another beautiful waltz from one of their albums: http://thesession.org/tunes/display.php/2604 Buy their album "Skyran," and you'll learn two more slow pieces: http://www.footstompin.com/music/fiddle_music/skyran You can also watch a video clip of their fantastic concert: http://thesession.org/discussions/display.php/5548

P.S. Tom, I might have met you in Leeds. I definitely chatted with Tom Napper in a session last year. Well, he is too fast!

Re: Simple but powerful Orcadian slow air or waltz

Ivan Drever has written some beautiful slow airs, as played by himself and Duncan Chisholm on their albums.

one of my favourites is 'Leaving Stoer' - not sure if it is Drever or not but I think Duncan Chisholm plays it

It's an Ivan Drever composition. I might put it up for you tomorrow.
