Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

Hi everyone
I think I've heard about a Slow Jam in Brighton on Thursday nights, I think it's at Castle Bar on Washington Ave down from the Green Briar, but I can't find a phone number anywhere for them, or in the white pages...is anybody out there from Boston know what I'm talking about? I brought the fiddle to work so I could go, but now I don't know how to get there...anybody, anybody.

THANKS!!
-Rachel

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

BTW, Rachel, that's the Castle conference center, and I don't think that's actually what you want, but I figured maybe they had a bar in there or something.

Wayne, too scary to think that we had the same thought...*grin*

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

Shame on you for saying what I was thinking...Oops, there we go again. Mercy,,,,, could we be twins seperated at birth? I saw your photo in the web site and the resemblance is remarkable!

That ought to stir the pot. The mental images are flashing through everyones minds and they are going,,, "WHAT!?"

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

A normal session: a session that is comprised of no more than ten or so musicians, who all know how to play their instruments in a fashion that makes people want to come by & listen to them. Does that clear things up for you?

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

Yer saying there's NONE of those in Brighton, Bradly? *grin*

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

Rarely, if you stay at the Greenbriar real late you might hear a few good tunes from Larry & some of the other ceoltas teachers, but that's usually only the last 20 minutes. Sommerville is the place for good music in Boston.

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

Um...what happened here while I was away? :)
I found out, I found out, I found out. It's not Castle BAR, it's CastleBAR. Very tricky. Anyway, if anyone's curious, it's at 575 Washington St, Brighton, and you take the #57 from Kenmore to Oak Square and that's you.
Thanks anyway!!

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

I keep hearing that, Brad, so I suppose it must be true, but seems a little hard on the Brighton folks. :)

So, let us know how it goes, Rachel -- now I'm curious about Brighton!

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

OK. It's meant to be a learning session (so I may have overstated, sorry if anyone got all excited about the jam-ness) but the rundown is that Paul Mulvaney teaches one or two tunes slowly (so, slowly or sloooooooooowly, I can let you know). And it's apparently alot easier to get to than some other jams, so that bodes well. I'll try to remember to write a review for you guys tomorrow.

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

OK, here 'tis. It was pretty good. It's good for learning, everyone is very nice, good time. As soon as we were done with the three tunes for the night, everyone went home. There was no jamming - this is designed to teach the tunes that get played in the sessions at the Briar on Mondays. I'll go back - even if just to stockpile new tunes.

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

You mean the Greenbriar? They have a session to get people ready for the session that's supposed to be a learning session? Really? Wow. They DO take the music seriously in Boston, don't they. *grin*

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

I don't know if it's Boston or Paul Mulvaney, he's always out to teach, help & spread the tradition. He's a good guy, he approaches Irish flute very differently than anyone else I've ever heard - but a very welcoming personality in Boston. Believe me, there are a few Irish muso's in Boston that have nasty, bilous dispositions. But Paul, Larry, George & a bunch of others more than compensate for those nasty folks.

Re: Castle Bar in Brighton, MA?

So, do they call a session a jam in Boston? Just curious...
