"2001 - Eskasoni High School students choose Elder Wilfred Prosper as Role Model of the Year, exemplifying the Mi'kmaw attributes of wisdom, humility, honesty, patience, truth, and love."
Re: Wilfred Prosper passed away this morning at 8 a.m.
Wilfred really bridged the gap between the Mi'kmaq and Scottish settlers in Cape Breton. He and his son were regulars at the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association.
I visited Wilfred a few weeks ago and gave him the gift of a tune (my one and only made especially for him). I realize now, it was he who gave me the gift of a tune.
I also realize that music allows us to know when it's time to visit the spirit world-- in his own words-- "What's the point (in going on), I can't play my fiddle anymore".
Besides his wife, Wilfred is survived by 15 children, 48 grandchildren , 18 great-grandchildren and 14 Godchildren! Many of them carry Wilfred's gift of music. May he continue to play tunes in the Spirit world!
Re: Wilfred Prosper passed away this morning at 8 a.m.
My sincere condolences to the Prosper family and the people of Eskasoni.Wilfred was a very good friend of my friend and mentor, the late Gordon Cote, who passed away in June of 2003. Alas, all the great ones are moving on.Go in Peace

As they say in Cape Breton, "We gave him a good sendoff".
