Name of last reel on Solas Live DVD?

Name of last reel on Solas Live DVD?

I have been enjoying the DVD Solas Live. Fantastic music all round.

Does anyone know the name of the reel that follows up after "Newry Highwayman"? Nothing listed on the case.

Try this website:

You could also try going back over their first three albums they were drawing from for the concert. I don't have the CD cases on hand.

I wish more people knew about this DVD. This is the old Solas crew with the exception of accordionist (Shortridge). Karen Casey (vocals) and John Doyle (guitar) were a major component of this group in its prime. Excellent material and a gem of a DVD. Best Wishes.

Shortridge?

And it is indeed a great DVD...if I get a chance (before anyone else answers it) I'll toss it in the player and listen.

Is this it?

I know that they play this tune on a live VHS the put out. I'm not sure if this is the same as the DVD you're speaking of. Anyway, they play this reel, Crossing the Shannon, as a finale.

MICK McAULEY is the current (excellent)accordianist. He replaced their original accordianist, the first to leave the band.

Go to their website. The current incarnation of Solas does not include Karen Casey or John Doyle, who are well represented on the DVD. They are at their prime on the DVD, a concert in Burlington for St. Patrick's Day.

Unfortunately, I don't think the new group has developed their own chemistry yet for ITM. They have been doing Dylan, Bluegrass and Pop songs. Seamus Eagan and Winifred Horan are still with the group and immense musical talents.
Best Wishes ;-)

Hmmm. Crossing the Shannon does not seem very much like what they play, although these tunes can sometimes morph into unrecognizable forms while still keeping the same name (as we all know).

I do believe that any VHS released by Solas will be the same as the DVD. To my knowledge they only ever put out one video project.

Yes--most ITM fans are saddened by their departure to pop. They were just in my city a few days ago at a great venue and I didn't go because I thought the drum loops might outrage me and make me behave badly in public.

You might check out their latest album...it's not as traditional as their first two, but it's making a turn back toward it.

And in concert, there are no drum loops or anything of the sort...in fact, there were no drums on stage when I saw them. They were brilliant. Too bad you missed the concert because of preconceived notions.

Re: Name of last reel on Solas Live DVD?

I'm sure you are right, Crysania---I will give them another chance. But many folks told me they had seen them live recently and found it to be less and less about trad. One can only go oneself and form ones' own opinion, as you point out.

Don't know the tune, but it's not "Crossing The Shannon".
