Hello everyone, I was hoping you guys could offer some suggestions for music to be played on the uilleann pipes for a memorial mass. I was just asked to play at my Uncle's funeral. He was my godfather as well, so I feel an obligation to do so. We are an Irish family and I don't know any suitable funeral type tunes. I am not gonna play Scotland the Brave. So anyways, suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I would think you could pull off "a parting glass" Good tune and its slow enough to do some bends and triplets without getting too complicated. Email me-got some pics from the tionol.
As Jim suggests, Ag Chríost an Síol, by Sean O'Riada. The most beautiful music I've ever heard played in a church. On Uilleann pipes it would be just lovely.
Would anyone happen to have the ABC for that one, Ag Chríost an Síol. I found a recording, but it's in a different key on fiddle and my program for meddling with that sorta thing ain't working right now.
And thanks to you all for the kind words. It's been a rough couple years for me and my family, and this music and the community has done wonders for me. Thanks to you all. : )
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I really appreciate it and so does the family. I really like Roisin Dubh, I was learning it anyways, so hopefully I'll have it playable by this weekend. To answer you question Fel, nope, I still haven't had any luck finding the ABC for Ag Chríost an Síol. I realy like the tune now though. Thanks again everyone. : )

If you can find someone to sing it with you, all the lovelier.

Re: Memorial Mass Music
I second "The Parting Glass," and also suggest "Inisheer."
My condolances on your loss.

Re: Memorial Mass Music
Sorry to hear of your loss.
As above, you could also consider
Roisin dubh - The little black rose (Very Irish!!!)
Se fath mo bhuartha - The cause of all my sorrow
Both are beautiful on the pipes, and apropriate tunes.
Ar dheis De, go raibh a anam.
