This link is to the tune i know as "The Banks Hornpipe" is that the same one longnote? It has it in G than in Eb. I've only heard it in Eb, it's a real party piece. The transcription listed for Brian Conway & Andy McGann is a little off from the way I've heard them play it. A good recording of it is on the "Milestone at the Garden" (twice) "The Banks" is usually paired with the Newcastle Hornpipe.
It says "a.k.a. Souvenir of Venice" (and a few other names); i guess that's why the search engine picked it up. I thought that, plus being a hornpipe, give it a small chance of being the one.
I'm really impressed with that "Fiddler's Companion", BTW. There's a great wealth of information there.
Thanks for the efforts, but no! This is the hornpipe that I also know as "The Banks". I suppose I will have to wait until it comes back to me unannounced and unexpected. At the moment I can't even recall the first few bars. I think it goes up to the third octave on the flute.
Hornpipe Sought
Hornpipe Sought
Anybody got the notes for a tricky little hornpipe called ( I think) "The Souvenir"? Now that's catharsis!
