Stolen Fiddle in Pacific Northwest

Stolen Fiddle in Pacific Northwest

Storioni copy, 1774, Cremona
Marco Raposo bow
Bobelock case

This fiddle was stolen last Wednesday afternoon from my Portland Oregon home. In calling all of the music stores that buy violins the next afternoon, I came across a possible lead. A man had called one of the stores that morning, wanting to see how much he could get for his violin. He knew nothing about the instrument, just that it was a "Bobelock", (which is the brand of case that it's in). Anyway, this gave me hope so I thought I'd use all resources possible to get it back.

To any Portland music store owners reading this: Thank you very much for your patience and support.

Re: Stolen Fiddle in Pacific Northwest

Instrument thieves don't realize the damage they do stealing what is essentially an extension of the person it belongs to. It’s like stealing someone’s hand and heart.

Re: Stolen Fiddle in Pacific Northwest

I remember many years ago seeing a young guy climbing on a bus with his cello and on the case was a carefully hand-lettered sticker saying, "If you steal this instrument, I will track you down and murder you in the night". I guess we can all relate to the place that comes from.

Joe, if you want a loaner, I've got a cheapo electric you can play with while you're trying to recover yours. Drop me a line.

Re: Stolen Fiddle in Pacific Northwest

The thing is....

this instrument was just yours for keeping in regards to its relatively long life, and the relatively short period of time you would have it...you are its "keeper" for the time being..its' protector...an instrument of this age you don't really "own"...stupid feckin' thief doesn't even know what he (she) has..not even worthy of calling himself a thief..

hope you get yer fiddle back

Re: Stolen Fiddle in Pacific Northwest

Oh God Joe, that SUCKS!!!

I'll keep my eyes peeled and tell the husband to do the same. Be sure and call all the the pawn shops in Vancouver as well as PDX, and don't forget to look in all those miserable "Cash on the Run" type shops, They always have loads of instruments and they aren't subject to the same laws as the pawn shops so I'm not sure how likely they are to tell you what they have over the phone. I'm sure you've got gobs of fiddles lent to you already, but if you need another you're welcome to my spare.

Re: Stolen Fiddle in Pacific Northwest

Try the pawnshops. If the thief appreciated good music and instruments, he wouldn't be a thief. This is probably a low life whose cultural range may not include Music Stores. Best Wishes!
