Happy New Years everyone, I have got the great Planxty live cd now and have noticed that many of the tunes seem familiar but the actual tune titles aren't on it. Could anyone kindly post the actual names of the tunes in the sets (as opposed to the track listings, eg the first track "The Starting Gate" is ~ 3 tunes, the names of which are..?) My curiousity is much obliged.
Thanks for that one. Embarrassingly I don't have any other Planxty records. Are *all* the tunes from the 2004 live, on the older albums? If so, it just occurred to me I can probably find them over at Alan Ng's with all the alternate titles.
Even the first set - after looking them up here, the first one I had as Lafferty's, the second as the Boys of Portaferry, and the third as the Duke of Leinster's Wife.
On track 6 I recognised Jenny's Wedding, the 2nd is the Virginia reel?, the third one's name escapes me.
If anyone can point me to the other tune titles it would be great.
I think every tune set is called out by Liam before he plays the tunes, if you listen carefully, except maybe the first set. Liam is pretty good like that.
Thank you all for the information. By the way I'm LesL, that's an L at the end. The links were very interesting and especially reading how the various members ended up together. I'm partial to Liam O'Flynn's piping but what a remarkable sound all of them together as well as separately. I did see a few other titles in one or another of the reviews, too. Thanks again!

The third reel on track 6 is Garret Barry's, I can't add anything else though.

You should check out the PLANXTY-LIVE 2004 DVD.
It's brilliant to say the least and has several tracks not on the CD.
(Without a doubt my favorite band in the world right now!)
