Triplets on banjo

Re: Triplets on banjo

You're pushing your luck here, that looks suspiciously like another mandolin repeat thread :-)

Re: Triplets on banjo

I found that tip about the straight thumb very useful indeed and pass on my thanks as well. There is always a but......but I have noticed a little bend in the thumb of the redoubtable Mr O'Connor as he plays a triplet and also as he cross picks (on his video which I am studying closely on advice of compaqjohn). So, Lars, you might find that observation useful as well even though I neither know why he does it nor am I able to alter the orientation of my thumb as I play a triplet or attempt to cross pick. However, useful it could well be and I say this because Gerry does not do things for no reason. Mike Keyes said a while back that "the devil is in the detail" where G o C is concerned. ( Sorry I cannot locate the posting where Mike said this but I remember it being another exccellent one for banjoists so if you can find it Lars it may be useful to you as well). Hope these things help you.

Re: Triplets on banjo

The most important tip on playing the banjo is to anchor the hand. Usually just behind the bridge on the strings. The pinky can be down on the skin. So it isn't flopping like a fish. This increases control , speed and percission.
