Just a note to let people know that the first programme in a new series of Cúlán went out last night. The programme is broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster at 1807hrs on Sundays and is available on the net. Hope you can listen in.
Robbie - There's some good courses out here in Canada. If you ever find yourself in Ottawa (between April and November to avoid the snow!)and you fancy a round, let me know and I'll take you for a game at my club.
Ian.
p.s. The links (ouch) between golf and music should be the subject of a separate thread.
Good to know it is back, Robbie. I really missed it very much and have been listening to the recording of the last few programmes. Yeah, it's the very best.
Haha, Zeen. You mean, like Catherine Zeta Jones took up sailing and golf so she could bag Michael Douglas? A determined woman! And not a little bit scary...
I tried golf once, I decided it was an unhealthily assymetric form of excercise. Hey, just like playing the pipes. It's a wonder any piper can stand up straight, what with twisting themselves round the pipes, and constantly hoiking all those irons. (Both kinds).
Never stops me from developing crushes on them, Helen! ;) Pete thought about taking up the pipes once. I must confess that I prefer my pipers at something of a distance, at least when they're first starting out. Heh.
I'll be sure to take you up on your offer if I'm ever in Ottawa. I was in Toronto a few years ago in late Jan. Not great for the golf at that time of year.
You're just not trying hard enough! Get them to pay you when you play golf and listen to the programme on the course.
That might be the upside down equivalent to the circumstance you were deeming unlikely.
As an aside from the world's greatest game, Matt Molloy, John Carty and Arty McGlynn - now that's what I call a three-ball - will be playing at a concert in the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum on Thursday 16 December. All tickets sold, unfortunately, but the concert will be broadcast on RTE RAdio 1 on St Stephen's Day.
People golf here any time there's no snow on the ground, Robbie, pretty much year round. In fact, I understand that the courses up in the mountains take advantage of the fact that the ball actually travels further because of the thinner air -- truth! Come up to Colorado and we'll take you golfing at Copper Mountain.
Robbie, dare I mention Milwaukee to you? I was very much looking forward to your gigs with Paddy a few years back. Now the fellas standing in for you were brilliant and all (some truly inspired playing), but we would like to see and hear you in person!! Come on back!
Jode, Milwaulkee General Hsoiptal is tops. If I ever have to get my appendix out again I'm going back. The room they gave me was more plush than the hotel I was booked to stay in!
It was unfortunate to miss the festival. I would certainly like to go back and play at it.
Trinil...any special sessions going on over the holidays. We are in town from 12/25 until 12/28. Sunday or Monday night might be the only possibilities. I wonder will the fiddle fit in the car with all the presents...

Re: Cúlán back on air
Culan is much better than any golf tournament (they both include the same visual pleasure, but Culan is much nicer to listen to).
Believe it or not, we missed your program here in Poland.
Well, at least I did. Thanks for coming back.

Re: Cúlán back on air
Is this a thing, with pipers and golf? Isn't Mick O'Brien big on it too? Is there a secret golfing phalange at NPU?

Re: Cúlán back on air
Ah, looks like you're going to have to take up golf if you want to bag yourself a piper, Nell! *smirk*

Sla/inte,
Glad to hear you like the show. It should be available on the net soon. I believe there has been a slight hitch which should be sorted out soon.

Not to mention, Jode, that we have some interesting courses in Milwaukee as well! Something to explore in the days before the festival.
