What to dress up as when goin on the Wren...

What to dress up as when goin on the Wren...

Do any of ye go out on the Wren?
Last year I dressed up as the fairy the fell off the Christmas tree.
Think very sparkly with lots of band aids and fake bruises...
Tryin to recruit a driver too but don't know anyone who won't want to have a few pints on Stephen's Day...
It's only a few weeks away so tryin to think of a good costume.
Any ideas ?

Why don't you go as the fairy who fell into the nettles and came out a whore.

Let's not tell the Yanks what it's about, unless they all change the bit in their profile that says things like "I live in Springfield MA" - where the hell is MA? or NJ?

And for Jim's sake, I think that a gender declaration on everyones profile might become necessary.

Whore - paint your face black and fill your mouth with custard and go as a zit.

It comes under seasonal customs. Listen to the Chieftains' "Bells of Dublin" track 20, The Wren Medley, to get an idea. Wonder what it's like in real life.

What gave you the idea I was a bloke jim troy?

thanx for the suggestions by the way,
I like that - the tour on the whore...
yeah I suppose dressin up as a whore wouldn't be too difficult...then we could call our wren escapades 'the tour WITH the whore...
but I'm afraid photos would be out of the question, it wouldn't be pleasant lookin at a whore covered in nettle stings...
...and if I went as a zit and had to fill my mouth with custard then where would I pour the guinness??
If we told ye lads accross the pond what the wren was ye'd only all want to come over and steal our ideas.
And anyway ye wouldn't know how to do the top-secret wren-dance or the secret handshake.

Re: What to dress up as when goin on the Wren...

I'd rather have custard in my mouth than guinness.

Re: What to dress up as when goin on the Wren...

Re Jim's comments abouit Dublin's names for all their prominent statues etc.

I was standing on the bridge over the Liffey at the bottom of O'Connell St. in 1996 looking at the underwater digital clock counting down to the millenium and this guy appeared out of nowhere, sidled up to me, looked both ways as if checking for the gardai, and said
"We've got the Tart with the Cart, the Floozie in the Jacuzzi and now we've got the Time in the Slime" and wandered off without a glance.
I cracked up and it still makes me larf!

Re: What to dress up as when goin on the Wren...

There are also people on this side of the pond who don't have the slightest idea of what the Wren is....

Re: What to dress up as when goin on the Wren...

But I know that 'the wren' is a very small bird - one of the smallest in all Europe, but I doubt that will help....

Re: What to dress up as when goin on the Wren...

We go out on the Hunt the Wren here in the Isle of Man - but don't do the dressing up bit - what's that all about?

Re: What to dress up as when goin on the Wren...

yeah jim, a cute hoor. I suppose there's lots of different meanins.
its also a verb - hoorin around, that meaning on the tare or the p*ss not the literal meaning!
its the same here wjh, huntin the wren. The wren boys used to dress up in straw masks for it here but now people usually dress up as whatever they like. Its some craic either way
