Some may ask what is a trad cowboy? But if you been around as long as I have you will know? It's the person that's never their at the start of a session. It's the person that has visited all the other public houses in the area but is sure the fell in the door half way through a session. It's the person that sings out of turn and talk as loud as they can through the tunes and people singing. They'll also tell you what to play.
Yes we've all come across them. So go on tell your story of the trad cowboy phenomenon.
We sit in our session - a group of middle aged men who go out without their wives on a friday night to play arcane music together, with scarce a woman in sight.
One night a young couple came in, and appeared to be much in love, judging by the positions of their hands (we think they were relatives of one of the agricultural people who also frequent the pub) - and this young lad was wearing a rather fancy waistcoat with a large embroidered flower down the left breast. When there was a lull in the music one of our number turned and said to the guy next to him "This one's shore got a purty jacket".
The young man in the pretty vest left and has never come back.
I know that's more sort of Trad Redneck than Trad Cowboy, but I was raised in the skaldic tradition and can't resist the opportunity to practice my art.
I'm great thanks. Yeap still in Scotland should be heading home soon. . May get to play in Irvine tomorrow night in a friend's band it would be good. Still playing around Glasglow on Sunday going well but I think if tomorrow night goes well It may beat all sessions. I never get any feed back from any of the workshop? These things happen. Do you have any funny session stories to date.

Topic wasn't what I thought it was, I thought it was a discussion about Frankie Lane.

Re: Trad Cowboy's?
As the grandaughter of a Colorado rancher I am deeply offended by these remarks. Where I come from cowboy is a highly respected profession.
