Hi all, I have played violin for over 10 years now, and have just picked up the mando (and love it). I'm wondering, what would be the best way to add some effects to my mando? I'm looking at a Digitech RP100, but I'm not sure - are there some effects pedals better suited to mandolin than others, or are regular guitar pedals ok?
Cheers
Don't see why guitar pedals shouldn't work - they work on 12-strings. I think phase shift is pretty good on intruments with unison string pairs.
I assume you're talking about playing at home or at gigs, and not at your local session!?!Talking of live work, pity they couldn't invent an anti-reverb effect. In some of the venues like town halls with loads of wood and glass, and no soft furninshings - you can sound like you're playing down one giant toilet!
I have a Zoom 504II acoustic pedal. It's the best fx unit that I've ever had.You can program your own effects, and it has a tuner. The price is very reasonable.
I have 504II and I have had complaints from soundmen that it gives off a lot of hiss. So you may have to buy them a beer beforehand if you are not doing yur own sound.

Re: Mando Distortion
If you want an electric sound, you can use the X V Amp pedal effect( chorus, disto, delay...)
It's sound great with my octave mandolin.
I have got a Zoom 504 II and it's good for acoustic only.

Re: Mando Distortion
Having used at least a half dozen fx units over the past decade, my current favorite is the tc electronic g major.
