Hi there guys,
Myself (A harp player) and a fiddle player will be visiting chicago from scotland at the beginning of december. It'll be part of a tour throughout the USA of gigs we'll be doing, but also to do workshops and concerts in middle schools and universities, on celtic music.
Just really wondering where the best place to go for a tune is in chicago? I think we'll be there for a few days, most likely to b at the weekend.
Any suggestions? I'll post the details of the gigs as I soon as I know more details bout where they are.
I don't know about Chicago, but if you are in teh Williamsburg, Virginia area, you should definitely go see and talk to Dr. John Turner...he is the Fiddler at Chownings Tavern in Williamsburg, and plays (and was taught) in the style of the late Hector McAndrew.
Just about every night except Friday and Saturday nights a session can be found at Irish pubs across the city and burbs. What part of town are you staying in?
Nice one. I'll look forward to going and joining in then! I'm unsure what area of town we'll be in yet. Accomodation is still to be organised I think.
Sunnybear-Afraid we're only going for 12days and the tour won't be taking in virginian. We'll be in pennsylvannia, new jersey, new york and illanois (if thats where chicago is!) though.
I was in Chicago in April and had a fabulous time! I went round about 8 different pub sessions and have some excellent (fairly high profile!) contacts for you if you want them....Email me
Try searching under "Chicago" in the sessions section of this site. You have a good number of sessions to choose from. Nevin's in Evanston on Sunday would certainly be a good place to start a day of chuning in the windy city....
Chicago is great. I've enjoyed all the sessions I've been to there, all over the city. When you know where you'll be, let people know, and maybe they can meet up with you.

There's Tomy Nevins, a pub in Evanston, a stone throw away from Chicago.

Re: The chicago scene
LoWhistle is correct, I was there on a Sunday abut a year ago and could find all sorts of musical happenings. Very rich in music.
