New Flute Maker on the scene!
From Dublin/Donnegal, living now in upstate NY, his name is Paddy Ward. (he makes pipes, too!)
He's making keyless Delrin, and keyless/keyed wood flutes in D and in Eb. All are based on Hawkes flutes he plays (actually, one Hawkes is in D and the other in Eb).
The first of Paddy's Delrin flutes have come in. The Ds are really good. The Eb is incredible.
I played mostly the Eb Delrin at the session last night and the windows rattled! I played the D several sets and it was very very good. Better than any Delrin I've played (and that runs the gamut of them all).
Wow.
Anyway.....Paddy's website will be up and going shortly. (www.WardFlutes.com) and will have sound clips.
His Delrin flutes, keyless, are $550 separately (D or Eb) and the "combo" is $950 (interchangeable body).
That's for stainless rings and slide. Sterling is $650/$1100
He's got a "deluxe" model, with faux ivory at the rings and crown (very pretty) for $800/$1400
I believe a case is included, but shipping is extra.
If you're interested, email Paddy Ward direct at: WardFlutes@aol.com
He lives in upstate NY (Shandaken)
and is mailable at:
Mr. Paddy Ward
4 Old State Rte. 28
Shandaken, NY 12480
There is currently no wait for Delrin or wood flutes that I'm aware of. He's making boxwood too.
I can attest to the sound of these instruments, and I'm not a flute player. Beautifully finished.
Paddy is an old friend, and he has been refining his skills for years before he felt ready to put his name on an instrument and offer it for sale.
Just to update, Paddy has a web site up now, complete with photos of his flutes. Go to: http://www.wardflutes.com/
I just purchased a used Delrin flute of his, and it really is an excellent flute all around. Loud, rich tone, excellent intonation, beautifully finished, and the lightest weight polymer flute I've ever held. Makes me curious to hear how a Ward in blackwood sounds.
His prices have jumped a bit since the original post above. Now charging $750 for keyless in Delrin, $950 for blackwood, more for keys or a second Eb body (though he currently has a couple of blackwood flutes at a reduced price).

Cool, does he make SSPs? His prices aren't too bad if they are really as good as you say.

Re: New Flute maker coming out
I am not a flute player but I have played with Paddy since he is here in the East and his flutes are indeed magnificent sounding.
Peace,
