Olympian craic

Well guys,
Just back from Atens where I came fifth in the 400 hour bodhran solo competitions.
Ex-Zorba-tant prices there.
Anyways, what's the latest, folks, on the Mighty Craic Album?

Re: Olympian craic

Heloo? Hello? Anyone there?
Dammit! probably still being snubbed for trying to shove that Brazilian runner into the bar for a bit of a session.

Re: Olympian craic

ROFLMAO--nice kilt, Joe.
Next time you try to kidnap an Olympian for a few tunes, might I suggest beach volleyball? Or synchronized diving? It's much easier to interrupt an event no one knows the point of anyway....
:o)

Re: Olympian craic

OK, who here can compose the "Ballad of Father Horan" before Christy Moore does?

Just think simple bodhran accompaniment, with a real Greek bouzouki solo in the middle courtesy of Andy Irvine.

Joe Quinn -- ah, it's lovely to see you. Actually, it's nice to see everyone here, though now I'm off again. (Still in San Francisco.) Smooches to you all.

Re: Olympian craic

Hi Zina - I was in San Francisco from 19th-24th August, trashing Clint Eastwood's cell :-).

When did you get there?

Re: Olympian craic

At Tonder Festival, it was stated that if traditional music was included in the Olympic Games, the Irish would walk away with the gold medals every time. There was a very quick, smart comment from the back--by an Irishman too, I believe to the effect "Ah, but they'd never pass the drugs test." :-)

Re: Olympian craic

Dorans, you came out to the States and didn't tell me?! Remind me to bruise you when we finally meet up. ;) Are you still out here, or have you gotten back home?

I've been in SF since last Monday. My dad had emergency surgery (quintuple bypass) late Sunday night. He's still out. We're hoping they'll bring him out of it this week, but we'll see, there's some complications. I am thinking of flying back home to Denver, then driving out with my equipment to help care for him, if he ever gets out of the hospital!

Re: Olympian craic

Hey Zina, sorry to hear about your dad. Hope everything turns out OK.

I got back 9 days ago. I was going to try to meet up with Jack maybe at the session there, but I read in one of his posts that he would be Ireland while I was in SF.

Zina -- sorry to hear about your dad, I hope he's ok.

Jim, I'm not going to Ireland till November. I was at the Sunday session that week and it would have been great to meet up. I don't know how you got the idea I was already in Ireland -- probably my mistake -- oh well.

Re: Olympian craic

I'll be at the sesh tonight Zina. I understand you're pre-occupied, but if for some reason you can come -- that would be nice.

Re: Olympian craic

Don't think I didn't think bout it, Jack! But I was in San Jose last night rather than SF staying with my youngest sister. I may very well end up bringing my fiddle out, though, so I'll probably be showing up like the proverbial coin -- once we know when they're going to try and bring my dad out from under or if I have a clear four days when I know he'll still be under but stable, I'll probably fly home to Denver and then drive back out with all my machines (and fiddle). Still just as well I don't have it with me, a fiddler passing through town for Estes Park needs to borrow it this weekend, so hopefully Pete can get it to her without a hitch on Thursday.

Jim, next time you come out here, you tell me. SF isn't that much of a jump for me from Denver, and I can always stay out here with my folks, so.... Bad boy. No biscuit! :)

I'm off to the hospital --

Re: Olympian craic

thanks, dudes -- the docs think he'll be out for most of this week too, and think that this would be a good time for me to fly home and then drive back out, so I'll be doing that tomorrow.

Jack -- d'you have someone in SF you can recommend to cut a new bridge for me? I've got a fiddle that needs fixing up and a new tailpiece peg, and I suppose I might as well get that done while I'm here...
