Name rank and serial number

Name rank and serial number

I was just wondering if the numerical identifier for each member was handed out in sequence as each person joined the Sesh over the years.
If so is it possible to scan through the member list numerically rather than alphabetically. Just curious as to who has been around the longest and is still around, and where have the posters of old gone.
How many remember the site Jeremy had before the Session site took on its present form.
I'm only doing this rambling because I am having the first quiet day at work in a long time.
Curious!

Re: Name rank and serial number

I think so, but I don't know how to get the list numerically -- you can, of course, do the ol' http://thesession.org/members/display.php/1 (which is Jeremy, natch) and replace the number on the end manually, but that seems like a lot of work...

Re: Name rank and serial number

Huh. Apparently I'm #47. :) I always knew that sooner or later I'd just be a number...

Re: Name rank and serial number

I'm #58. I remember checking in every week for the new tune, back when only Jeremy could post them. I learned the Annamaculeen that way, a reel we still play nearly every week at our local session.

Re: Name rank and serial number

Heh. Nice one, Jimmy! Better watch out for Rose's pulaski! ;) (Mr. Lee is my father. Pete's last name is Strickler :)

Re: Name rank and serial number

Zina - sorry to pull you down but you seem to come up as 513, and Jim at 11815 well what can I say...
This could get interesting.
I don't think I'll bother doing a manual search but I might check out who is 2-10 out of curiousity.

Re: Name rank and serial number

Ah ha, you're right, Donough! I made a faulty assumption when I got the members page at 47. I'm not surprised, I was away when Jeremy made the announcement, and checked in quite a bit after Will, so I was surprised when my number seemed to be higher than his! I only recognize one of the names before that as still being an active member, actually, although who knows with the lurkers.

Re: Name rank and serial number

I'll let Will tell you about pulaskis -- I'm sure he's got fond memories... :)

Re: Name rank and serial number

I have just wasted 30 minutes doing searches and here is a summary of what I found.
Of members 2-10, none have submitted anything but some have a few tunes in their tunebooks.
#27 - Tmack is the first active participant with one link and 7 comments up to as recently as 27/7/04.
#35 - Dont has been active right up to 24/8/04 with 41 comments submitted
#47 is the search number that will bring up the usual items.
The biggest suprise is 53.....
Yes 53 is Antikhntr who LURKED until 5/7/04 and has since been a very active participant.

Yes I am a bit obsessive but do I get a prize for doing this meaningless task???
Cheers

Re: Name rank and serial number

Jim
Just let the cursor pass over your name on the screen and down at the bottom of your toolbar you will see the http: etc for your particulars ending in a number. That's YOU.

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Donough

Re: Name rank and serial number

Need we tell you what the prize is, Donough? ;)

*sigh* This sleeve is NEVER going to be done, I want to go to bed!

Re: Name rank and serial number

Jim, a pulaski is a marital therapy device, not unlike the chastity belts of old, but designed to keep husbands from straying and female interlopers from flirting too strenuously. It has a long handle (the better to reach that nubile blonde sashaying over to our table), a sharp axe head (for quick dispatches), and a blunt adz end (when she really wants to get her point across).

Re: Name rank and serial number

Wow...I just did a quick search of the members I think of as having been here from the start and active participants. I also went back over the first dozen or so discussion threads--ancient history, back in June 2001. So here's what I found:

Jeremy #1
David #220
John Harvey #266
Brendan #329
Aoife #354
Alan McGregor (RIP) #439
Zina #513
Fergal Dearle #589
Kerri #707
Caraz #712
weescottishfiddler #731
Carrmuse #799
Alan Corsini #888
Alice Flynn #987
Arbo #1102
Brad Maloney #1173
bigdave #1287
glauber #1305
Caoimghgin #1384
Scott Donaldson #1400
Brother Steve #1531

It's good to see some of these people still hanging out here, though it's sad to see names that have gone silent, especially Alan's. His humor and enthusiasm are missed.

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Will Harmon

Re: Name rank and serial number

Sorry, I should specify Alan McGregor. Although Mr. Corsini is missed, too.

Re: Name rank and serial number

Another piece of useless information for ye all.
The latest person to join the list:
#13359 - Na Geira
Unfortunately this person hasn't given any more info about themselves.

"I am not a number..........I am a free man!" [ Anybody remember "The Prisoner"? ]

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Kenny

Re: Name rank and serial number

Haven't seen 'The Prisoner', but I remember the parody of it in the Canadian 3D animation show 'Reboot'. Man, now *that* was television!

Stay frosty, Sparky.

Re: Name rank and serial number

I guess I'm 12973...but yo can all call me Mike. Do we tatoo the number on our rears or our knuckels? I'm not sure how it works here on the session. And will there be some secret masonic-type handshake or signal to signify our allegiance to traditional music as we pass on the street. Hehe! ;-) This makes me want to ask a question but I'll post it in a different thread....

Re: Name rank and serial number

hey- i'm 1380, so does that get me a reed that works????? don't forget the piper's wiggly hand because of chanter death grip stance

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by I_Fel

Re: Name rank and serial number

We don't need no steenkin' handshake, we got the The Session t-shirts, courtesy of Jeremy...

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Zina Lee

P.S.

The link for the t-shirt is on the main page of The Session.

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Zina Lee

Re: Name rank and serial number

officially the most expensive t-shirt I have ever bought, you know. the company messed up the invoice and put an extra digit in the price, on the wrong side of the comma, and customs duly taxed it exhorbitantly.

But I like it anyway!

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Q

Re: Name rank and serial number

Good grief, did they really? Can you get your money back from Customs, or is it just not worth the hassle? :-/ Hope you at least wrote the t-shirt company...

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Zina Lee

Re: Name rank and serial number

Nah, didn't want to draw Customs' attention. I order loads of things from overseas, and most of it gets through untaxed. I think I had a paid gig the day it arrived, so I just wrote it off then and there.

Re: Name rank and serial number

Is that your yella raglan Q? Mine came too. It's a little bit big, but I figure I'll just have to work out and grow into it, LOL!

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Dr. Dow

Re: Name rank and serial number

indeed it is. mine fit's alright; sleeves are a bit short though %7P

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Q

Re: Name rank and serial number

Yeah? Mine are too long. Like I said, it doesn't fit me. Maybe if I trim the sleeves I could make it into a proper T-shirt.

# Posted on August 26th 2004 by Dr. Dow

Re: Name rank and serial number

Hmmmm....maybe we should each get our number silk screened onto the backs of our t-shirts, like baseball players.

Re: Name rank and serial number

I'm having mine tattooed around my ankle in sequence with my NSS number, my PLS number, my CWRE number, my PIN numbers for my various accounts & garage door opener, the ISBN numbers of my favorite books, and my SSN. Then I will proceed to play the lottery sequentially through them, hoping to hit it big (while Supporting Our Schools) so that I can retire and play tunes and go fishing. Whew.

Hey Kenny, I just looked up #6... I don't think it's him.

Re: Name rank and serial number

BatLady--fish?? did you say fish??? I like fly fishing; can we hi-jack this thread a bit more?? what other non musical hobbies do we all have??? I'm way into cycling; flyfishing a bit less than playing music. Of course cooking comes to mind- live to ride; ride to cook

# Posted on August 27th 2004 by I_Fel

Re: Name rank and serial number

Oh, IFel, Jack et al already hijacked the thread; we are free to go off on cycling and fishing now.

# Posted on August 27th 2004 by Michele Sims

Re: Name rank and serial number

Like this thread wasn't begging to be hi-jacked. hahaha Now, back to the discussion about "The Prisoner"... anyone here ever visited that town in Southern England that was used as the set?

# Posted on August 27th 2004 by Phantom Button

Re: Name rank and serial number

No, but don't they manufacture pulaskis there?

# Posted on August 27th 2004 by Michele Sims

Re: Name rank and serial number

Jack, the set used for "The Prisoner" wasn't actually in England. It was in North Wales, near Snowdonia, a real village built on the coast many years before in an italianate style, which I've seen, albeit from a distance.

One of the most absorbing episodes for me was towards the end of the series with Leo McKern and Patrick McGoohan confronting each other in a prison room. I read somewhere that they improvised a large part of that scene live on camera.

Re: Name rank and serial number

Jack, I forgot to mention that you were of course partly correct; some of action was filmed in and around London, particularly inthe earlier episodes and the last one, if my memory is correct.

Re: Name rank and serial number

They ran the series on PBS here in the SF Bay Area last year. It was presented by someone who was obsessed with the show, and was punctuated with interviews from the people involved. I remember something being said about that episode to that effect. They also went to the location where it was fimled. Apparently the same architect who designed and built the town used in the series also built a similar town somewhere on the northeastern coast if N. Ireland. (Anyone know of this?) The Prisoner was one of my favorite TV shows when I was growing up.

Re: Name rank and serial number

Was it Portmerion ?

# Posted on August 27th 2004 by Kenny

Re: Name rank and serial number

Right Kenny, that's the place in Wales, but I can't find anything about the town Sir William Clough-Ellis designed in N. Ireland... anyone?

# Posted on August 27th 2004 by Phantom Button

Re: Name rank and serial number

Hey, Jack - "Be seeing you !".

# Posted on August 28th 2004 by Kenny

Re: Name rank and serial number

A google search on "William Clough-Ellis" didn't throw up anything about a corresponding town in Ireland - but plenty about Portmerion. Being a famous architect it's possible Clough-Ellis may have designed individual houses or buildings in Ireland.
