This may seem a bit weak to some but I thought I would start a thread to send Saint Patrick's day greetings to all my new friends at the Session.
Here's hoping that you each play all the music you can stand.
To my fellow fiddle players, May your bridge or sound post not fall and your pegs not slip. May the cork in your bow remain firm in it's place so you don't loose your hair, and may you not forget that tune that you know so well just before your asked to start it for everyone.
And if you should happen to be lifting a glass or a few,, safe journey to wherever you may have to travel to afterwards.
God bless all in this house! (That goes for everyone regardless of what instrument you play.)
My legs feel like lead! I must've run backwards and forwards along the parade line a jillion times, carting all the coats and bags that the dancers were too hot to wear after a while -- but today -- I'm FREE! Free to play music! Free not to dance! Free to not sweat until my solo dress is heavier than it was by five pounds! Woohooo!
Hope everyone who is gigging today has/had a good time playing the music we love. For those of you with the bent, I hope that St. Patrick's Day leads to good and useful meditations on the meaning and impetus of the saint's life.
And this evening, we're going to go bowling. *grin*
Friday night was my main gig for this year - The Main Street Show, which is like a regional Prairie Home Companion. It was recorded (live audience of about 200) with my singing being the main nod to St. Patrick's Day, but also a hilarious song by Greg Keeler (Lament O' the Laundromat) lyrics here: http://www.troutball.com/songs/more_tunes.htm .
The show will be broadcast today on KGLT fm, 6-9pm. During that time I'll be at a church, providing music for a supper, along with some other people from our session. Will Harmon is the only one I know from session.org in the listening area of KGLT. I suspect you will be at the big session going on in Helena during that time, eh Will?
Well, this year my own celebration will be a bit more low key. We've turned down a number of gigs, and the annual house party we used to close out with is no more--after 20 years (!!!) the Casey's decided to bolt the door and travel instead.
So we're looking forward to a relatively calm session at our local taproom. Four hours to share tunes with the neighbors over a pint or two, and then I'll head home to catch the end of Alice's Main Street Show on the radio.
Hope everyone here gets to play their favorite tunes in good company.
My St. Paddy's is VERY low key indeed! I'm laid up with a killer cough, cold, sorethroat and accompanying laryngitis, of course. One of the undeclared benefits of teaching young kids...they SHARE...liberally!
It was nice to watch the Chicago parade with the prez in it. Presidents always go to New York parades. This was a first to have him in Chicago.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
