Re: New Compositions, advice please!!!!

Play them at sessions or to your friends but, be careful, about copyright issues. Depending on how good these tunes are, you could consider getting them published. I don't know if that's the sort of thing you're asking about. There's also the possibility of "slotting them into sets" for recordings or live gigs. It really all depends on your present circumstances and involvement with the music.
You could also post one or two here for us to give an opinion. However, you should take Jeremy's tune posting policy into account, ie about 4 or 5 traditional tunes to each original composition.

Re: New Compositions, advice please!!!!

Get them copyrighted and possibly notated. If you notate it first and then post the tune to yourself, that way you have the postage stamp as proof incase anyone would happen to steal it.

Re: New Compositions, advice please!!!!

From what I understand, mailing a work to yourself does NOT constitute proof of authorship/copyright. For formal proof you have to register with the appropriate government agency. It's not particularly difficult, nor expensive, but there are some issues with regard to music that are slightly different from books (which is what I know best). After all, music can be disseminated in three ways...by publishing (ie sheet music), by performance and by recording, and the laws are different for each one. If you go to the mudcat website http://www.mudcat.org and type "copyright" into the search function you will find a load of advice and links to official resources.

Re: New Compositions, advice please!!!!

If you join the PRS then sometimes it can be quite useful, although, so I have heard, if you join they own all the rights to your music. That sounds slightly confusing, I know.
