I had a nice chat w/members of Danu and Bohola over the weekend at the Dublin Irish Festival.
First was Pat Broaders of Bohola, second was Donnchadh Gough of Danu.
Also present was piper and bodhran maker Michael Vignoles, who introduced me to Pat. Michael had some encouraging words for me and my piping skills that let me know I'm on the right track.
All 3 were very helpful and offered advice, good craic with piping, which pipers to listen to, ideas for practicing and general encouragement.
For some reason, this site no longer likes the Danish spelling of Tonder which I just used to paste. I get T? instead after the post is submitted. This is carrying "name dropping" a bit far, folks.
That'll be Mairearad Green? I'll try to remember, if I get speaking.
Actually, Anna's band is part of the support for "The Brendan Voyage" with Liam O'Flynn and the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra. This should be great exposure for them, over and above their other gigs at the festival.
mmmm.....west-coaster, I wonder who you are?? I probably know you, I'm the guitarist/singer from the Anna Massie bands flatmate(Jenn), I used to go to school with Maireread and I'm at uni wi Anna-I sooooo must know you! Trying to figure out who you are! Chances are I see yoe at the pub the whole time!
Totally jealous you're of to Tonder John. Jenn showed me the program and it looks aaaammaaazzzing! I'd love to see the Brendan Voyage. I'm going through a bit of a orchestra/trad instruments stage.
The fact that theres so many amazing artists on, but that they're on all within a few days means that the atmosphere must be buzing there! Kinda like a celtic connections vibe but multiplied by 100!

Hope to bump into the Danu boys in Tønder. Any mileage in dropping your name to them, Mconners?

Seamus Namedropping - wasn't he a blind itinerant fiddler from County Mayonnaise?

John, a friend of mine is playing box and pipes with the Anna Massie Band at Tonder: if you see her, say AM from home says 'hello'.

John J -
I was able to buy Donnchadh a beer while we were having a chat. Depending on how good the beer was he may have a good recollection of me.
They did play very well at the festival - large crowd, excellent weather that evening.
Past years it has been either very hot or rainy but this year was great.
All the best.

Re: shameless name dropping
Dublin was great fun, esp hearing the Danu/Teada (et al) folks playing outside under the moon next to the hotel at 4am...
