Does anyone else find that certain types of tune are easier for them to learn?
for example I have always seemed to find it easier to learn jigs, whereas a friend of mind finds reels much easier to memorise.
What (if any) types of tunes do you find come more naturally?
I always find jigs easier than reels, probably because I played mandolin before the fiddle. The picking patterns were easier.
Polkas are probably the easiest, though.
I find reels hardest - maybe because not many of them are as regular as other tunes (the two halves of the A or B are sometimes quite different). Jigs, Polkas, Slides and Hornpipes are much easier by comparison for me at any rate.
I find Jigs easier, it's probably because they stick more to my head, 123 456, 123 456.. Wheeeee! Reels... It depends what it is, and for some reason, when I learn reels from Jimmy, they're surprisingly easier to play, I wonder why...
Depends on the melody. Sometimes I just get a mental block with some tunes, regardless of style. Waltzes are easiest for me though, because I love them. I find it harder to memorise the titles than the tunes.

Re: types of tune
Yeah, me too! I don't know why, but I find it much easier to learn a slide than anything else.

Re: types of tune
I find reels the easiest, because the tunes are often the simplest and the rhythm is so bang on

Re: types of tune
I find it easiest to learn tunes that I've heard over and over again. It helps if I like them too.
