please help me on a.b.c's!!!!!

hi, i have noticed that a lot of the tunes on this site are also in abc format, and many other tunes only provide this format. i am new to this whole 'abc' process and was wondering if there is a programme you download which converts abcs to sheet music, so that the abc-illiterate amoungst us(well, me really) can get tunes without having to understand the format its self? it would also hlep if this was a free programme, and if it had easy to read instructions! oohhh dear, i think this is a long shot! never mind, anything or any tip woudl be gratfully received! thankss, laurs, scotland

No problem. There's plenty of software out there for converting ABCs to sheetmusic. Look in the "Links" section under "ABC Software" for starters.

If you're using windows, I recommend ABC2WIN. This is shareware, but you can try it out first (you just can't print from the trial version).

If you use a Mac, then Barfly is pretty good.

If anybody knows if other good ABC software sites, please don't hesitate to submit the links.

Re: please help me on a.b.c's!!!!!

Hi Laurs,
Check out the ABC sites under "links" on this site. The software you're looking for is available. ABC notation is really easy to read with a little practice. It's worth knowing for the same reason sheet music is--you'll be able to learn more tunes from more sources. It's also invaluable for notating tunes in email, when sheet music software would be too cumbersome. If the tutorials on the ABC sites are too confusing, take a tune you already know well and find it in ABC format. Then play the tune, reading the letters as you go. It will soon make sense.

This is a great link:
http://www.concertina.net/tunes_convert.html

Just copy and paste the ABC Notation into the window, click submit and it converts ABC to Sheetmusic that you can print.
