It's a way of searching the entire site or, alternatively, the entire web.
It uses Google's search engine so it won't always be bang up to date but it should come in handy if you need to search for something but you don't know whether it would be in discussions, tunes, recordings or sessions.
I've been making some other minor tweaks to code of The Session that should be completely unnoticable. If anybody does notice something strange, let me know.
When you click through to an album, the track listing is displayed with a little icon (a magnifying glass) next to each tune in a track. This links through to a search for that tune in the tunes section.
Of course, this won't be much use if you're looking at the latest Radiohead album but it's pretty handy for albums like these:
This site is so overwhelmingly integrated and complete, it is now the sole source for all my daily news, contact with the neighbors, REM dreams, and caloric needs. The usb cable plugs straight into the i.v. port in my chest, and I'm good to go....
Wow... the search feature is awsome! I put in "zina" and there were so many hits that it crashed every computer within 5 miles, caused a power outage in Bolinas, and a small airplane was forced to land on the 580 interchange.
As to the site improvement, I can finally avoid using that annoying Google website and make search from my Home page... There goes my efficiency at work, I suppose...
Jeremy, when I hit the "next" link at the bottom of a completed web search, it sends me back to the blank search window again, and not the next page. Is that my browser? Or what?
Excellent, Jeremy! I've already made use of the new search option.
It's great because, say you were looking for a Cd, any Cd with a particular tune on it that has *not* been submitted to the archives. In the past you would not have been able to search it down very easily. Now you can search the tune by title, find all the Cds with that tune on it and then shop for the Cds.
Jeremy, I noticed fadas were turning into funny little squares the other day, but it may have been something I've done to my PC rather than any tweaking you've done.
When are you going to bring out thesession.org merchandise? I want a new T-shirt and maybe a hat. Some nice yellow socks and underpants would be good too. I'd also quite like a retro style jacket with a thesession.org logo that I can get people to sign the back of when I go travelling. And a mouse mat. And a tea towel.
Good idea Dow. And how about session.org penny whistle swizzle sticks? They could become valuable collectors items that will show up on Ebay eventually.
Seems to work OK on the discussions page but has anyone noticed that the use of the fada in their profile results in lost consonants and vowels replaced with a little box?
Breandan, yes. I mention "Scoile Éigse" in my profile, and now that appears with a little square instead of "Éi".
BTW, how can you type those little squares intentionally? They're not on the keyboard.

Breandan (and everybody else with that fada problem), I've just gone back into my profile and retyped that little square as "Éi". It seems to work, so problem presumably solved.
I suggest it's probably not possible for Jeremy to correct this fada problem globally because that little square could denote any one of a number of characters, the correct one of which would only be known for sure to the writer of the profile concerned (technically speaking, it's a one-way mapping).

I've been tweaking The Session Shop a little too:

And Zina can run on it's own, or embedded into an existing website! (That's my favorite).
