Apologies to all who think this is inappropriate as it is a tunes website, but I'm doing this as a favour. My sister was shown a song by Sandra Kerr when she was back in England, problem is she could only remember the first verse and chorus. Sorry again but you guys are my last hope for finding out the song! The lyrics are printed below:
It was on a Tuesday evening,
Just at 12 o’clock at night,
I spied a pretty fair maiden,
Sitting in the candle light,
With a candle on the table and a bucket on the stand,
With a towel around her shoulders like an angel she did stand,
Young Munro, me Charlie Yeggum, Young Munro I do love you,
Young Munro, me Charlie Yeggum, Handsome Charlie Young Munro,
P.S. I don't know if thats how u spell "Yeggum" it could be "Yeggem" or what not, sorry again for posting this on a tunes site!
Don't apologise. The site is called "The session" after all and there have been many songs sung at sessions. Many singers would wish more and many tune players less but I've never seen any harm in having a bit of both.
You haven't said if you've tried "Mudcat Cafe" yet. That might be a possibility for identifying this song.
I've just done a quick check, but it doesn't seem possible to search Tunes Comments for a particular data string (such as "pretty fair maiden" for example). Can someone confirm, or otherwise?
Trevor
I tried "young munro" and "charlie" in Google and found this:
YOUNG MUNRO - "It was on a Tuesday evening" - twelve o'clock - handsome fair maid - Scots Love Song coll Canada (Edith Fowke suggests it is a translation from Gaelic) - ROUD#2316 - FOWKE TSSO 1965 pp74-5 Mrs Arlington Fraser, Ontario 1961 -- Cf SPANISH LADY -- Peggy SEEGER: "The Amorous Muse" ARGO ZFB-66 1968
Dear Scottyboy,
I think that might be part of a common song in Ireland " The Spanish lady ".
I sell music books but you know the usual... anything someone the internet wants, I dont have .. I looked 12 or 14 books & no song

mm.. i synpathize> the elusive melody.. yuo want to sing it, but how? sometimes yuo have to just "go with the flow' and sing it to some other melody.. it's ok to do that so long as you have tried your best to find the "real{' melody' . I sense your passion,so go with it mate, find a way to support this aulde lyric..

Re: Unknown song
Comments on Tunes which have words associated with them often include the lyrics posted by someone who knows them.

Re: Unknown song
You could try searching the Digital Tradition Folk Song Database at http://www.mudcat.org ... which seems to be unavailable at the moment
