Air Concertina???

Air Concertina???

Ok, many of us are guilty of playing the Air Guitar, and they even have contests for the best Air Guitar players back in the States. But how many of you do Air Fiddle or Air Flute or whatever the instrument of your choosing to songs you like. Must say, I ve gotten some strange looks from people when I was caught playing the Air Concertina!

Re: Air Concertina???

I caught my husband air drumming once, it was really funny, specially since he's a guitarist!
I do do a bit of air fiddling if I'm watching someone playing on tv, I try a copy their bowing mannerism, for practice. Luckily, my husband's never walked in on me, or he'd get his own back.

The image of air Uillieann piping is great I must say.

Re: Air Concertina???

Occasionally in a (classical) orchestra rehearsal you may see a string player doing some air bowing as s/he sorts out some bowing in the score.

Re: Air Concertina???

I knew a guy who played Air Shakey Egg and got arrested for lewd and suggestive behaviour.

Re: Air Concertina???

I think Joe Cocker plays the Air Concertina.

Re: Air Concertina???

One of my dreams is to produce a series of instructional videos for instruments that shouldn't be played, with top-notch players demonstrating them using air-instruments.

Re: Air Concertina???

I play air-anglo in the car - if you practise your scales until they are automatic, you can busk along to new tunes on air-anglo very well.
I prefer a 39 key Bb/F Jeffries air-anglo out of preference.

Re: Air Concertina???

As a passenger in a car, if I think the driver is about to make a very dodgy move - you know run off the road or something - I completely lose the power of useful speech, but always make this strange gesture, which used to make my partner say "I see you're playin' your concertina again."

Re: Air Concertina???

Enough with the instruments!

Are there any other Air Singers out there?

Re: Air Concertina???

Air singers!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't heard of any, unfortunately, what a wonderful concept though.

Re: Air Concertina???

You can often see people "mouthing" the lyrics of songs, tunes etc where they either feel it's inappropriate or they're too nervous to sing along. So,I suppose they do exist.

Re: Air Concertina???

Yes, you're right after all John, but showaddydadito's contribution still made me laugh.
In fact, I wish there were more of those air singers, especially on the long dirges that sometimes come up to dampen a lively session. But this is a diddler tallking.

Re: Air Concertina???

Cath - when you get someone singing a long dirge, so long as you are out of arms reach of the singer, it is almost always fun after about 15 verses to ask (in the pause between verses, of course, to be polite) "Are we about half way yet?".

Re: Air Concertina???

Even if you've been listening to and following the song of woe, you might think that the singer has reached the end of the saga but there's often still half a dozen verses to go. :-(

Re: Air Concertina???

Very relieved to see that a few of us feel that way about those songs. As a good fiddler friend of mind once remarked at a session "If he sings one more bl**dy song about dead soldiers, I'll ring his *&@"* neck".
Short on wit perhaps but something a few of us diddler can relate to. The singer, thankfully, has now left London.
Still laughing at the Joe Cocker crack from Q though...

Re: Air Concertina???

I was air whistling the other day and got slapped in the face, because this girl sitting next to me on the train thought I was trying to kiss her!

Re: Air Concertina???

All this about air-playing leads me to wonder what the devil is the instrument an orchestral conductor is air-playing?
