Who posts links to themselves playing The Music in their profiles?

Hey, how many members of TheSession have links to sound recordings of themselves playing The Music in their profiles?

I love having lots of versions of tunes being played by real musicians and it's nice to put a "sound" to a name.

For example (I hope you don't mind, since you posted them :) ) fiddlecrazy has some nice MP3 tunes posted in his profile http://www.thesession.org/members/display.php/8045

Howaya Len

This sounds like a good idea, could you expalin how I might do this. I have a Sony net MD and a reasonable laptop, but other than the software I use for my job (fiduciary services), I'm not very good with computers, but I am willing to learn.

Regards

I'm fine.

I've had (relatively) good luck recording directly with MusicMatch Jukebox (just by changing "source" from CD to Microphone) and then editing out the extraneous noise at the beginning and end with Audacity, a digital sound editing program. You can set MusicMatch to read from the Line-In or System Mixer, too, which would allow you to record off your MD player. Unfortunately, I just realized that you have to have the commercial version of MusicMatch Plus to change the input source ... that didn't used to be the case. :( Oh, well, it's only $19.99 US....

You can also record with plain-old Windows Sound Recorder which makes .WAV files and then convert the .WAV files to MP3's.

What I don't know, is where to get the online storage to keep the MP3's so we can post links to them in our The Session profiles.

Perhaps, fiddlecrazy can let us know what he did...?

Well, you have to link to another server. Jeremy doesn't have the bandwidth to serve up MP3s, it takes rather a lot of server resources. You might try one of the free website services (like Geocities) but keep in mind that they usually only allow so much bandwidth use in either an hourly or 24 hour period. Once you have the website/server space, it's not hard to do; let me know if you need step by steps.

Or you can sign up for an account with one of these (there are others)

http://www.mp3.com.au
www.besonic.com

you can upload your tunes there and people can stream them or download. It's free and no bandwidth restrictions.

Re: Who posts links to themselves playing The Music in their profiles?

I just recorded my tunes with a program called mp3recorder that I got free from http://www.mpegx.com. You will need a mic as well as a program. Once you have made the recordings, you have to put them somewhere on the web. I like to use http://www.soundclick.com. You can upload all the mp3s you want for free as long as they are no bigger than 10 megs. Then, you link to them in your profiles. I think it would be really awesome if more people linked to sound files, and pics from their profiles. If someone doesn't know how to do any of this, email me, and I'll help you out.

Original Music?

I'd like to know who and how often people post original tunes. I know that I have years ahead of me to even learn a small portion of the tunes that have come before, but I am curious. Do original tunes get posted here very often?

Re: Who posts links to themselves playing The Music in their profiles?

Gian Marco, for one, and Dow, for another, post original tunes. The problem is that we only _know_ if a tune is original if the tune poster says so in the comments.
It would be useful if there were a searchable field in the tunes database for composers, or if the tune posters' names could be searched. For this reason I can't at the moment identify any of Dow's original tunes, but I do know that Gian Marco has recently submitted two "cat" tunes - The Cat In The Fiddle Case, and The Rambling Cat.
Perhaps some of the original tune posters could list their tunes on this thread for us.

Patrick's is mine.

Ya know? I started a little site for original tunes written by session members a while ago. Remember? And then everyone sent me their tunes, and I put some of them up there, but I still have a lot to do. I had kind of forgotten about that. I should start updating that again. Is anyone really interested in that, or is it a dumb idea? It would be a place to find all the original tunes in the same place.
