I am the proud owner of an Apple PowerBook G4 and a Sony Minidisc recorder (one of the newer models). The MD recorder came with a PC CD-ROM to allow me to upload my minidiscs onto PC, but since I don't use a PC anymore, I have no way to transfer my MDs onto my computer.
I was wondering if anyone was aware of a program for Mac's (other than a pricey Pro-Tools setup) that would allow MD users to upload files from MD onto the computer.
Hey, I don't think you actually need any software to do this, unless you want to do any serious editing. I would imagine your MD player has a TOS (digital video) output, with either another TOS plug or a 3.5 mm minijack on the other end. If it is the minijack, you can just plug it into the audio input on the side of your G4 (just to the left of the headphone jack-- I have the same machine). Your machine should detect that you've connected a device, and will probably launch iTunes or something to receive the files. If it doesn't, a device icon should appear on your desktop, and the sound files should be listed inside. Copy 'em to your hard drive (there is a Users>Cara>Music folder for this), and you should be able to listen to them with iTunes. Like I said, if you want to do any editing (crossfades, splicing, etc), you should get a copy of Jam or something, which is maybe a $40 download.
Darin, I don't think I have an audio input thing. There is no input near my headphone jack, unless you're talking about plugging something into one of the slots in the back of my computer...in which case, I'm not sure where to plug it in. Maybe you will have to show me when I'm in Philly over St. Patrick's Day week....

I use amadeus 2 for my recording software.
Works well for me.You can find it on version tracker or the Apple site. The minidisc is a great tool for finding out how well you play. It is always a humbling experience. Griffin stuff is top notch. I've got the iMic for my 1st Gen Tibook. I've mixed down transcriptions for lessons and put them into my iPod as well.
Can't wait till Garage Band comes out this Friday.

Good luck & let me know how it turns out!

To transfer music from mini-disk (or records or tape players) you can use the Griffin iMic:
http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic
It plugs into a USB port and the quality is better than a regular audio-in minijack.
You'll need some software to record the sounds coming in.
