World guitar record attempt

World guitar record attempt

2000 guitarists needed to attempt new world record for no. of guitarists playing same song

http://clonguitarfest.com/worldrecord.htm

Do join in. Probably just two chords but that's OK as long as they are traditional ones played in a traditional style

Re: World guitar record attempt

MOST sessions here are like that.

Re: World guitar record attempt

How many chords did John Lee Hooker need to make some of the most inspired recordings ever made?

Re: World guitar record attempt

I am sure they were both fine chords

Re: World guitar record attempt

Re: World guitar record attempt

"guitarists playing same song"

Now that's got to be a record.

Re: World guitar record attempt

"There's only one word which springs to mind: WHY?"

It's the only way to stop the 2000 guitarists playing different songs at the same time.

Re: World guitar record attempt

What a pointless and actively non-musical waste of time and resource.

I knew I'd get replies

Re: World guitar record attempt

At least the organisers are realists:

"...and will see over 2000 people ATTEMPTING to play the same song, at the same time, together, ..."

Re: World guitar record attempt

Pointless, yes I 'spose it is. Didn't know something could be 'actively non-musical' though. Actively anti-musical maybe.

Re: World guitar record attempt

Not pointless at all in fact very useful actually. While they are messing around doing that they are not attempting to play in sessions.

Re: World guitar record attempt

I'm trying to get 200 fiddlers together to break the record on the most fiddlers playing Drowsie Maggie together. Any takers?

Re: World guitar record attempt

The numbers of those suffering from WFS, Whimsy Fear Syndrome—terror and/or outrage at the thought of others engaging in whimsical activities— has grown exponentially in recent years.

To address this epidemic, phony events such as this “2000 guitars festival” are concocted and promoted specifically to draw WFS sufferers (“wiffies”) into the open, so they can be identified and tagged (for the eventual round-up, which will be carried out by kazoo-playing centaurs in turbans and tutus).

"Any idea what song it will be"

Oro Se Do Bheatha Abhaile - if you click on the link John Spillane says what the song is. Unfortunately Dave, the two chords you need are Am and G so that is you out then. ;-)

Re: World guitar record attempt

There was a world record whistle attempt at the Achill Island Festival. Or so I heard from reputable sources. :)

Re: World guitar record attempt

And how many people did they have last year playing guitars ?
We had more ukelele players then that at the LondonUKeFest 2009, all playing "Sloop John B" for 5 minutes, 851 of us, counted and delivered, including Jonah Lewie, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, and Phil Jupitas.
Sadly, LOndonUkeFest2010 has fallen victim to a lack of backers, and has hit the dust.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....

Re: World guitar record attempt

A few years ago I saw Dougie Maclean at a folk festival, and he reported that his song "Caledonia" had once been performed by 1000 bagpipes. "It wasn't the most musical version of the song I'd ever heard," he said, "but apparently you could hear it from space."

Hope they performed it on solid ground!

Re: World guitar record attempt

A few years ago a couple of hundred people of us set that record in Portland, playing "This Land Is Your Land" for about an hour.
Good fun, after about twenty minutes I was in something like a trance. It was just like playing old-time music.

Re: World guitar record attempt

this reminds me of the old joke...

What's the difference between a rock guitarist and a jazz guitarist?

One plays three chords to thousands of people...

And another old joke....
What's the difference between a life assurance policy and a musician ?
The policy eventually matures and makes money, while the musician..
