Re: Does anyone know some nice hornpipes for the tinwhistle
When I was first starting out on the whistle in an all girl ceili band we were doing this gig and playing a show tune which was "off to California". I started but none of the others joined in and despite feeling a little exposed I thought never mind they'll join in second time round on the A music...... but they didn't. Now the trouble was I wasn't completely confident about the B music and as the time grew closer I was just hoping and praying they would start..... but guess what..... they didn't and worse still they all started giggling. So to play tin whistle with your fellow band members corpsing all around you and still manage to get thru the tune without a problem I reckon was some feat..... I've never liked that tune since mind you!!!!

Belfast hornpipe. The Dubliners do a great version.
The Dublin Hornpipe.
Both are a lot easier to play on the whistle than the fiddle for instance.
Pretty Maggie Morissey is a sweet hornpipe, you might want to try it too.

Flowing tide, for sure. If you want to really bust your chops and impress the lasses or the lads or both, then The Drunken Sailor. ought to be played on a C whistle though...

Re: Does anyone know some nice hornpipes for the tinwhistle
A favourite of mine at the moment is "Paddy's In Chicago" it's on Deanta's CD "Whisper of a Secret"
http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?PID=1209304&frm=sh_google
There is a snippet on the above link (if it works?) track 4 "Paddy And The Bandit" This is played on the Bb whistle.
A great CD altogether.
Dave.

Dunphy's Hornpipe has to be the best as it's named after a bloke called Hornpipe (quote - Vin Garbutt).

An undeservedly obscure Northumbrian hornpipe called "Rowley Burn", whose sheet music is on this website.
