Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

I don't have pay radio, myself--do they have play much Irish trad on it? Except for that one day of the year, that is.

Just trying to turn this blantant spam into an actual discussion.... but I'm sure that "SiriusMark" has already moved on to another innocent victim.

Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

Brilliant Bren! Yeah! Exactly! The "Patty" thing does my feckin' head in! It's a blanket thing over here. If you say Paddy people look at you werid - if they see it written it appears wrong to them. Is it Lucky Charms fault?

You Lick.

Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

I was in a pub in upstate NY a couple years ago, and complemented on their taste in music, but the bartender said, 'it is satellite radio, I just turn it on.' It was a pretty good mix of trad, folky singing, mostly acoustic Irish stuff. But what satellite station it was, and whether it is still available, is more than I can say. Anybody out there in Mustardland have satellite radio?

Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

No pay radio here...too cheap. I listen to Irish music on Itunes Radio for free.

Are the Dropkick Murphys Irish?

Is this spam?

Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

No, and they aren't my particulaur cup of tea but they are known supporters of the working class movement and don't go supping with george w to get cheap publicity, unlike a few others, some of who are Irish.

Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

Dropkicks are a Boston, MA, USA band that plays punk rock with Irish influence, have a piper, that sort of thing.

Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

The closest thing Sirius has to a trad channel, is a 3 hour program once a week called "Celtic Crush". It's hosted by Larry Kirwan (of Black 47), and is on Saturday mornings and then rebroadcast Tuesday nights. It's not strictly trad oriented, it is more of a hodge podge of anything even remotely relatated (Dubliners, U2, Flogging Molly, Cathie Ryan).

Larry is also the host of the St. Paddy's Day Radio event.

Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

You would think that with hundreds of channels, there could be at least one for us trad lovers.

Re: St. Patty's Day Radio on SIRIUS XM

Surprisingly, there is one on AOL. I've been listening to AOL's Celtic Radio channel at work, and it's quite good-Bothy Band, Cherish the Ladies, Lunasa, John Williams-loads of great tunes-nonstop! Larry's show on Sirius is good, if you can catch it.

Oh, and it took me forever to find it; it's tucked away in the World Music section.
