Hi all!
I heard a German session on tv...they played st anne's reel in d major and then changed to d minor...it sounded great! do you whistlers know if it could be possible to do using the same whistle?? I tried but found it so hard.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks.
If I were forced at gunpoint to play St. Anne's in a minor key (and that's what it would take), I'd throw it into E dorian, starting on high G. I think it would ruin the tune.
Yes, half hole for the F naturals, half hole or cross fingering for the B flats, depending on your instrument, and it may take some getting used to if you aren't into playing those accidentals on a D instrument, whistle, flute or pipes...
I read somewhere that it's called "Satan's Reel" when you change it to minor. It's kind of fun on a fiddle but it must be a real pain on a D whistle. Sorry, no help at all
I used to play music with a mandolin player who liked to play D Major tunes such as "Soldiers Joy" first in D Major and then in d minor and then back to D Major.

This is like the 'truck driver's gear change". Just be happy it's
unworkable on the D whistle. I think it sounds crass.
