Re: where can you find good 5 string tenor banjos in the uk???

tenor banjo = 4 strings

You don't say where you're at - if you're in Ireland and anywhere near Galway, Clarinbridge to be exact, contact Tom Cussen - his website is www.banjo.ie - he always has a variety of entry level/vintage/his own Clareen brand banjos in stock (though the entry level and vintage stuff won't be listed on his website). Custy's in Ennis usually has a few banjos around as well. If you're in the UK, try andybanjo, as mentioned above.

Enda Scahill has a very good tenor banjo tutor out - you can get it at his website www.endascahill.com, plenty of tunes in it to learn.

Ah, just noticed that the title of your thread says "in the UK" - janey mack, my attention to detail is sorely lacking this evening! Still, that narrows things down a bit...

Right so, try the andybanjo website - he's sound, his own Grafton brand are a decent starter banjo and he also carries other brands and some vintage stuff.

For more advice j.roche, you could try asking the guys over on 'The Irish Tenor Banjo' website: http://theirishtenorbanjo.ning.com/

Re: where can you find good 5 string tenor banjos in the uk???

A banjo player at our session has 6 5-string banjos he like to get rid of. He'd gone to the Porterhouse, Covent Garden, and left his car unlocked with his own 1932 Gibson banjo with Scruggs pegs on the back seat. He drank 8 or ten pints, left the pub intending to drive to a donk rave in Burnley, and found his car with the back doors wide open and 6 banjos piled up on the back seat. I know the old joke involving banjos, but this really did happen
