I sure did....Ashley MacIsaac is from Nova Scotia!! He's always pushed fiddle boundaries and has carved out quite a name for himself! And a lefty to boot!
There were other great fiddlers too....hope you enjoyed it!
He's great-- brilliant musician, gay, serious alcoholic, almost zero editing between mouth and brain, killer live performer, has worked with unusual collaborators, etc.
he stayed with Philip Glass in new York once, and "borrowed" a bunch of pages from one of Glass' scores...and later said that Glass didn't seem to notice it missing ;-0
It was fun, although they said they were trying to capture the feel of fidders they heard in pubs up in the Maritimes, and any attempt to duplicate a fiddler in a pub that involves about a hundred dancers and electronically amplified playing is going to be a bit overblown and hard to coordinate. Glad to see Brunet getting his props--he is one of my favorite fiddlers of all time!
And I didn't see it myself, but I heard that April Verch was on the top tier dancing and playing her fiddle for the opener. Andre and the others apparently were delegated to her court below.

Re: Olympic Music
Ottawa Valley fiddler April Verch was another performer, playing music written by Alberta fiddler and tunesmith Calvin Vollrath.

Re: Olympic Music
We'll probably get Lily Allen rapping and Boris Johnson playing the fiddle and impersonating Nero.
(Though of course, Nero didn't actually play a fiddle...)

Re: Olympic Music
André Brunet from Quebec and Daniel Lapp from Victoria, B.C. were the other two male fiddlers. Lots of fake fiddlers too, dancing with their unravelling bows. A fun segment.

For the closing ceremonies, David Boulanger will fiddle around with La Bottine Souriante.
