A little bit more of Québec ‘trad’.
An open invitation was extended to all by CommandoTrad to join in singing and dancing at home and to film themselves while listening to NRG, a Montréal radio station. (Both tunes/songs are well known in Québec). People were asked to send their films to CommandoTrad for a montage to be posted on You Tube. Even a young couple travelling in China sent in theirs. Brilliant!
I don't know the exact translation for my nickname in english but this is the guy in the church who prepares the church before the celebration" He organize and setup the place. It,s also the name of a very strange Quebec'reel that I like a lot!
Le bedeau de l'enfer
Oh, I’m bankrupt – I’m in bankruptcy
I sold my shirt and my fiddle,
My wife said to me, “My dear Gédéon,
Sell you shirt, trousers, shoes, slippers,
Sell your cow, fat pig, your mare and stallion,
Sell your pitcher and your flask,
Sell your flute and your accordion,
But the fiddle stays at home!!”
The session.org version –as Mackilmoyle’s reel is not what is commonly played in Québec. Andy Cutting plays a gentle version of it on his CD, Lisa (# 7)
I renew my call for anyone interested in trying a similar event in London - perhaps the security guys might not be so keen, but it could be fun too.
I don't know how it feels within the country, but there seems to be an idea abroad that Canada is not too much involved with the big political movements abroad - what was the line in "The West Wing" ? "Canada has promised all possible support short of actual assistance..." or something like that, and so maybe the idea that a few people might suddenly spontaneously appear and start playing music might not seem so threatening.

That's right, GP, we just string them along for a while. It wouldn't change what they eventually do, anyway.

This is really lovely, I will watch it whenever I need cheering up!
The tunes are given on the video as La Banqueroute and La Galope de la Malbaie.

That was great. Miles better than any tourist film of this sort of thing could ever be in giving the impression, "Wow, this is *some place*!.."
What does 'Le Bedeau de l'enfer' actually mean? Sounds intriguing. 'The Bedouin Of Hell'? I suspect though that 'Bedeau' does not mean 'Bedouin'.

Anyway, what I meant to say was that it might be nice to try it, even in this more paranoid country !
