Re: Tenor banjo tabs

There are a few here: http://www.alltabs.com/index.html, and tabs for mandolin (which reads the same as tenor banjo) here: http://www.mandolincafe.com/tabarc.html

For written sources of tunes, it's really worth it to learn abc notation--thousands of tunes available in this format, and it's not hard to understand. Plus you can easily swap tunes via email with no special software or pdf/gif files needed.

Re: Tenor banjo tabs

Tenor Banjo tabs and mandolin tabs will be exactly the same, and mando tabs'll probably be easier to find.

Re: Tenor banjo tabs

You can use an abc program to turn all the abc files here at the session into tabs. I've used Tabledit, but there are plenty of other ones out there.

Re: Tenor banjo tabs

you could tab the ones here yourself. that's what i do. its a little tedious, but eventually it teaches you to read music..

Re: Tenor banjo tabs

Agreed
I've been using tabledit for some time now.
Just download it an www.tabledit.com ( take the free version ) , set the instrument to tenor banjo GDAE. Then you can download every tune on the session.org in abc format and inport them into tabledit. Every tune perfectly tabbed . the only problem is you can get over dependant on this system rather than working tunes out for yourself .

Re: Tenor banjo tabs

you shouldn't really need to use tab for tenor banjo, because if you generally play in first position, there is only one place to play each note. Tab is useful for guitarists to be able to play melody and harmony together, to tell them where they have to go on the fret board to reach all the notes effectively, as each note can be played usually on at least 5 of the six strings, somewhere on the fingerboard. Tablature is also vital to guitar arrangements for the fact that guitars are rarely tuned to even intervals like a violin would be. I do play my tenor banjo in multiple positions on the fingerboard, but it's more effective to think of it as transposition if you are playing a whole piece in second or third position. Always think of pitches as related to the pitches before them on the fingerboard and you can play anywhere on the neck using many combinations of open and fretted strings, but for the most part, Traditional players don't move around on the neck.

Re: Tenor banjo tabs

What I meant to say was, ...Because you play a four string instrument, you have an opportunity to learn to read sheet music or abc relatively easily, compared to a concertina, guitar, or 5 string banjo player., both of which will further your understanding of music more than tabs.

Re: Tenor banjo tabs

I can read sheet music as I played the saxaphone a few years back. Ive just never took the time to find out what the notes are on the banjo. just lazyness on my part but I suppose its something I should try learning.
